The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Nigeria, Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, has called on the international community to take stronger action over what he described as the worsening humanitarian situation in Palestine.
Speaking during a celebration of International Quds Day on Friday evening in Abuja, the ambassador said the situation in Palestinian territories has become a serious humanitarian tragedy that requires urgent global attention.
Raja said the Palestinian issue has remained unresolved for decades, noting that the situation in Gaza, the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem continues to worsen amid ongoing conflict and destruction of critical infrastructure needed for civilian life.
He stressed that the international community must not remain silent in the face of the suffering of civilians, noting that genuine commitment to justice and the rights of nations is needed to address the crisis.
The ambassador also said the position of Iran remains that the future of Palestine should be determined by the Palestinian people themselves, adding that any lasting solution must reflect the will of those who have lived through years of occupation and conflict.
He further called for renewed global attention to the Palestinian cause and urged nations and people around the world to support justice, freedom and dignity for Palestinians.
Also speaking at the event, Chairman Al-Huda Foundation for Enlightenment, Cultural & Islamic Education Abuja, Mohammad Zubair, urged Muslims and supporters of the Palestinian cause to continue raising awareness about the situation in Jerusalem and the status of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Zubair noted that the annual Quds Day observance was established by the late Iranian revolutionary leader, Ruhollah Khomeini, who declared the last Friday of Ramadan a day of solidarity with Palestinians.
The event was organised by the Iranian embassy in collaboration with the Al-Huda Foundation for Enlightenment, Cultural and Islamic Propagation and brought together religious leaders, scholars and members of the public to discuss the Palestinian cause and developments in the Middle East.
