Hioki Launches Fast Multichannel Thermistor Modules – IAA

Hioki’s two new thermistor modules deliver 50 ms multi-channel temperature data, addressing rising thermal management demands in EV and industrial applications across the region.

Hioki E.E. Corporation has launched two thermistor measurement modules designed to accelerate temperature testing in electric vehicle development and industrial applications.

The Thermistor Module U8557 and Wireless Thermistor Module LR8537, announced on 10 March 2026, are built for the company’s LR8450 and LR8450-01 Data Logger Series.

Both modules support 15 thermistor and resistance input channels with a 50 ms data update interval and 16-bit analogue-to-digital resolution. That speed is more than 10 times faster than typical bench-top digital multimeters, allowing acquisition to synchronise with battery management system update cycles during development and validation work.

The gap they address is real. As battery-electric and hybrid electric vehicles become more prevalent across Asia, thermal management has grown into a central engineering challenge. Engineers evaluating battery modules and motor systems need high-channel, high-speed temperature data, but conventional approaches have relied on complex wiring and slow measurement speeds that struggle to keep pace with rising channel counts.

Users can register a thermistor’s resistance-temperature characteristics directly into the LR8450 or LR8450-01, converting resistance values into real-time temperature readings. Multiple characteristic equations can be configured to accommodate a broad range of thermistor types. Combined with other modules in the LR8450 family, including thermocouple modules, the setup supports mixed-sensor temperature measurement within a single system.

The U8557 is a plug-in module suited to bench-top or rack-mounted test environments, and can support up to 60 thermistor channels when multiple units are combined with the LR8450. The LR8537 adds wireless capability and can operate on AC power or battery, enabling cable-free configurations in situations where wiring is difficult or where measurement setups need to move. In wireless configuration with the LR8450-01, users can scale up to 165 channels.

Applications include EV and HEV battery evaluation, BMS verification, motor and inverter temperature monitoring during durability testing, and transient thermal behaviour analysis on test benches. Both modules use push-button terminal blocks for wiring.
