Jacob Misiorowski pitched six shutout innings and outdueled Chris Sale in a matchup of National League Cy Young Award candidates as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the visiting Atlanta Braves 2-1 on Friday.
Misiorowski (13-5) allowed four hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Trevor Megill worked around a two-out single in the ninth for his 24th save.
William Contreras had four hits and drove in a run for Milwaukee, which won for the fifth time in its last six games.
Michael Harris II and Mauricio Dubon had two hits apiece for Atlanta, which lost for the fourth time in five games. Sale (12-9) yielded two runs on eight hits over six innings. He struck out six with no walks.
White Sox 6, Mets 4
Jake Rogers belted a two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth and Miguel Vargas, Randal Grichuk and Colson Montgomery hit three consecutive homers in the sixth as host Chicago rallied past New York.
Rogers went deep off Jefry Yan (1-1) with two outs and a runner on third. Grant Taylor (5-2) worked around a leadoff walk in the top of the ninth.
Brett Baty had two hits and two RBIs while Marcus Semien added two hits for the Mets. New York starter Sean Manaea was working on a shutout in the sixth before yielding three long balls in a row.
Yankees 3, Blue Jays 1
Spencer Jones hit a two-run homer in the second inning and New York extended its winning streak to five games with a victory over visiting Toronto.
Jones put the Yankees up 2-0 with a drive off Spencer Arrighetti (7-6) that just stayed fair by a few inches inside the right field foul pole. New York starter Cam Schlittler (11-6) allowed one run on six hits in six innings and earned his first victory since July 24.
Toronto’s Alejandro Kirk extended his hitting streak to 10 games with an RBI single in the fifth. Arrighetti yielded three runs on three hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Phillies 7, Cardinals 6 (10 innings)
Alec Bohm ripped a two-run triple in the 10th inning, fueling host Philadelphia to a victory over St. Louis.
Bohm’s triple to center field off Luis Gastelum (3-3) extended the Phillies’ season-high winning streak to seven games. Bohm, who also had an RBI single, joined Luis Arraez with three hits to move the Phillies a season-best 13 games over .500.
Gastelum permitted two runs, one earned, on two hits in one inning. St. Louis’ Jordan Walker homered for the third time in as many games to highlight a three-hit performance.
Dodgers 5, Pirates 4 (10 innings)
Tommy Edman delivered a game-ending RBI single in the 10th inning and Los Angeles returned home to earn a victory over Pittsburgh.
Max Muncy hit a home run and Mookie Betts added a two-run single as the Dodgers increased their winning streak to four games. Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up two runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings. The Dodgers lost Andy Pages to a broken left hand after he was hit by a pitch.
Nick Gonzales had a pair of RBI singles, Oneil Cruz hit a two-run homer and Bubba Chandler gave up four runs on four hits over four innings for the Pirates. Gregory Soto (5-4) had two outs in the 10th and had Edman in an 0-2 count before Los Angeles pulled off the win.
Rangers 2, Angels 1 (10 innings)
A 10th-inning throwing error by Denzer Guzman resulted in a walk-off win for Texas over Los Angeles in Arlington, Texas.
Guzman’s RBI double off Tyler Alexander (4-2) broke the scoreless deadlock in the top of the 10th, but Wyatt Langford tied the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double off Ben Joyce (0-1). After an intentional walk, Guzman handled Ezequiel Duran’s hard grounder to third base, but his throw to get the runner at second was wide of the bag, allowing Langford to score the winning run.
Duran had four of the Rangers’ 11 hits. Reid Detmers threw six scoreless innings for the Angels, and all six of the hits he allowed were singles. Texas’ MacKenzie Gore also fired six shutout innings.
Red Sox 6, Giants 4
Willson Contreras crushed a three-run home run to highlight a five-run third inning and Wilyer Abreu went 3-for-4 with an RBI triple for the Red Sox, who spoiled the return of San Francisco’s Rafael Devers to Boston.
The Red Sox banged out 11 hits while Boston pitchers allowed only one baserunner over the final 5 1/3 hitless innings. Sonny Gray (16-3) worked six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while tying the Phillies’ Cristopher Sanchez for the major league lead in wins.
San Francisco’s Drew Gilbert (2-for-3) and Devers hit back-to-back homers in the fourth. Devers, who spent the first eight-plus seasons of his career with the Red Sox, finished 1-for-3 with a walk. Logan Webb (8-8) was tagged for five runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Padres 6, Twins 2
Ty France homered and knocked in three runs while Randy Vasquez sailed through seven innings as San Diego knocked off visiting Minnesota.
Vasquez (9-6) allowed two hits and two runs. It was only the fourth time a San Diego starter completed seven innings this year — twice each by Vasquez and Michael King.
Twins starter Connor Prielipp (3-7) allowed six runs in six innings. Kody Clemens’ fourth-inning triple drove in both of Minnesota’s runs, but the Twins managed just one other hit in the game.
Orioles 5, Rays 3
Dylan Beavers homered for the third game in a row and Pete Alonso hit his 30th home run of the season, leading Baltimore past visiting Tampa Bay.
Alonso’s two-run blast broke a tie in the fifth inning to help the Orioles snap a four-game losing streak that began with a Monday loss at Tampa Bay. Baltimore starter Trevor Rogers (9-8) pitched seven innings of three-run ball, and Rico Garcia tossed a perfect ninth for his sixth save.
Kenny Piper, a catcher in his second career game, homered for the Rays, whose nine-game road winning streak was snapped as they lost for the sixth time in eight games. Freddy Peralta (5-11) permitted five runs and seven hits in seven innings.
Royals 5, Tigers 2
Noah Cameron tossed five scoreless innings while Kyle Isbel, Vinnie Pasquantino and Carter Jensen each hit a solo home run as host Kansas City won its season-high sixth straight game by defeating Detroit.
Cameron (8-8) only yielded singles to Hao-Yu Lee and Kevin McGonigle and overcame three walks to keep Detroit off the scoreboard. Isbel and Pasquantino each had two hits and combined for three RBIs for the Royals, who are amid a 15-4 home stretch.
McGonigle had two hits with an RBI for the Tigers, who have lost three straight and six of seven. Detroit’s Troy Melton (7-2) allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Mariners 6, Cubs 5 (10 innings)
Leo Rivas singled home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning as Seattle defeated visiting Chicago.
Cal Raleigh hit a three-run homer for the Mariners, who won for the fourth time in six games. Seattle reliever Seranthony Dominguez (5-3) pitched a scoreless top of the 10th.
Alex Bregman homered twice and Pete Crow-Armstrong and Ian Happ also went deep for the Cubs. Bregman’s solo shot with one out in the top of the ninth off Mariners closer Andres Munoz tied the score at 5-5. Ryan Zeferjahn (4-4) took the loss.
Guardians 9, Rockies 1
Petey Halpin and Patrick Bailey homered, rookie Travis Bazzana tied his career high with four hits, and Cleveland beat Colorado in Denver.
Bailey also doubled while Jo Adell and Nathaniel Lowe had two hits each for the Guardians. Four Cleveland relievers, led by Tim Herrin (4-2), delivered 4 1/3 scoreless innings.
Tanner Gordon (0-4) allowed five runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings for the Rockies, who have dropped the first four games of their six-game homestand.
Diamondbacks 9, Reds 0
Jordan Lawlar homered and posted career highs with three hits and three RBIs as Arizona struck early to beat Cincinnati in Phoenix.
Geraldo Perdomo had three hits, scored twice and had an RBI for the D-backs, and Gabriel Moreno had two hits and an RBI while extending his career-best hitting streak to 14. Eduardo Rodriguez (13-4) gave up four hits, all singles, in 5 2/3 innings.
Nick Lodolo (3-2) allowed 10 hits and six runs in 3 1/3 innings as the Reds took their sixth loss in eight games. TJ Friedl, who broke an 0-for-30 skid with a fifth-inning single, entered in the first inning after Michael Toglia dislocated his right shoulder making a diving catch.
Astros 4, Athletics 0
Hayden Wesneski (3-1) logged five scoreless innings of one-hit ball, Yordan Alvarez and Isaac Paredes posted consecutive RBI doubles in the fifth and Houston blanked the visiting Athletics.
Alvarez finished 2-for-3 with two run-scoring doubles for the Astros, who improved to 3-4 on their nine-game homestand. Alvarez, Jose Altuve and Christian Walker had two hits apiece.
J.T. Ginn (8-8) yielded three runs on six hits in five innings as the A’s took their fifth loss in a row.
