Angular Events: Event Binding, Types, Examples

In this article, we will learn about Events in Angular, including their types and examples. Before delving into the concept of event binding in Angular, let’s first define Angular and event binding. Angular is an HTML and TypeScript-based platform and framework for creating single-page client applications. TypeScript is used to write Angular. What are Angular Events? 

Angular events are the events which allow you to trigger your component logic inside your Angular app. In Angular, events are performed by the user actions like button click, mouse movement, keyboard etc.  

What is Angular Event Binding? 

In Angular, Event binding allows you to listen for and respond to user actions such as keystrokes, mouse movements, clicks, and touches. When the DOM(Document Object Manipulation) event is raised at elements, it calls the specific element in the component. With the help of, Event Binding we can bind from DOM to Component and therefore, we can use them as per our requirements.  

Syntax: -   (target-event-element) = “Template Statements” 

Angular event binding consists of a target event name with parenthesis and is assigned with the template statement on the right side. Here is an example of the button click events, calling the component’s onSave() method. Whenever users click the buttons. 

<button (click)="onSave()">Save</button> 

Here, click is the target event and onSave() is Template Statement as shown above. The template statement changes the state of the component. After that Angular detects the changes and reflects your output as a view in your component. 

Angular configures an event handler for the target event in an event binding. You can use event binding with your own custom events. When the component or directive raises the event, the handler executes the template statement. The template statement responds to the event by performing an action.

Here, I am going to share different types of events binding in Angular. events in Angular offer plenty of events to communicate your angular application. 

List of event types in event binding  

1. (click)=”demoFunction()”:- When we need to perform some actions on the element click on that time bind this event on the particular element. 
2. (dblclick)=”demoFunction()”:- When we need to perform some actions on the element double click on that time bind this event on the particular element. 
3. (blur)=”demoFunction()”:- Blur events fire when an element has lost focus. Mainly it is used on the form submission page. 
4. (focus)=”demoFunction()”:- Focus event fires when an element has received the focus.  
5. (submit)=”demoFucntion()”:- When we want to submit the form. We used the trigger “submit” event. 
6. (scroll)=”demoFunction()”:- When we want to scroll the pages it first these events. 
7. (keyup)=”demoFunction()”:- Key up event is fired when a key is pressed from the keyboard. 
8. (keypress)=”demoFunction()”:- The key press event is fired when a key that produces a character value is pressed down. 
9. (keydown)=”demoFunction()”:- The key down event is fired when a key is pressed. 
10. (mouseup)=”demoFunction()”:-mouse up event is fired at an element when a button on a pointing device. 
11. (mousedown)=”demoFunction()”:- mouse down event is fired at an element when a pointing device button is pressed. 
12. (cut)=”demoFunction()”:- cut event in Angular fires when the user initiates a cut action through the browser’s user interface. 
13. (copy)=”demoFunction()”:- copy event in Angular fires when the user initiates a copy action through the browser’s user interface. 
14. (paste)=”demoFunction()”:- paste event in Angular fires when the user initiates a paste action through the browser’s user interface. 
15. (drag)=”demoFunction()”:- Drag Event is a Dom event that represents a drag and drop interaction. The user initiates the drag option to place any items in the browsers. 
16. (drop)=”demoFunction()”:- The drop event fires when we leave the cursor on the pointing device. 
17. (dragover)=”demoFunction()”:- drag over event is fired when an element or text selection is dragged on the UI.
