Rapid App Development for the iPhone Duo Surges Ahead
The iPhone Duo commenced shipping approximately two weeks ago, garnering significant attention regarding app support. Apple has announced that over 100,000 applications specifically tailored for the foldable device are now available on the App Store, with a growing influx of optimized titles entering the marketplace daily.
Developer Enthusiasm Fuels Growth
Susan Prescott, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations, highlighted the swift response from developers to embrace the new device. Notable applications such as Microsoft’s Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Word, as well as Etsy, Goodnotes, Halide Mark III, NBA, NHL, Zoom, Amazon Prime Video, Fantastical, and Instagram, are among the many that have been optimized. These applications feature a “Made for iPhone Duo” badge on their product pages within the App Store, indicating their fitness for the device’s unique specifications.
Workshops and Developer Support
In an effort to accelerate app development, Apple has organized more than 50 in-person workshops across 19 cities throughout the past month, with over 2,000 developers in attendance. Applications utilizing standard SwiftUI and UIKit components are equipped to automatically adapt to the device’s displays, while new APIs provide support for custom layouts and hinge angles. While older applications remain functional, they may not fully utilize the inner display as optimized apps do.
Room for Improvement
Despite the impressive number of optimized applications, there are still many titles within the millions available on the App Store that have yet to be updated. For instance, Google Maps recently announced its optimization for the device. Apple projects that the pace of updates and new app releases will continue to accelerate moving forward.
