U.S. President Joe Biden has reportedly tested positive for COVID yet again–this after testing negative Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
The president will resume isolation despite not experiencing new symptoms, CNBC reported Saturday.
Biden, 79, is one of millions of Americans who tested positive for BA.5, as confirmed last week by his personal physician, Dr. Ashish Jha. His initial positive test came July 21, after a week of traveling across the Middle East. He tested negative for the virus on Tuesday night and again on Wednesday morning of this past week, when he ended his isolation, according to the Associated Press.
The president was treated with the antiviral Paxlovid the day he was diagnosed, according to multiple news outlets. The drug is known for “rebound” cases, referred to by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as “a brief return of symptoms” that “may be part of the natural history of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) infection in some persons, independent of treatment with Paxlovid and regardless of vaccination status.”
