Bridgerton season two is on its way and fans have already fallen in love with a new character. While Netflix tells us the main characters of season two will be bachelor Anthony Bridgerton and new lady in town Kate Sharma, it’s Kate’s best friend who has caught everyone’s eye. Why is that? Well, because Kate’s best friend is actually her adorable corgi Newton – and he’s got quite the character.
Fans got a glimpse of Newton in one of the ‘first look’ photos of the TV show released by Netflix last month. They instantly fell in love with the pup and those familiar with the Julia Quinn novels were over the moon to see the beloved character brought to life on screen. They took to Twitter to express their excitement.
“Newton the corgi is going to be my favourite character”, wrote Twitter user Jules. While another fan Rosemarie added: “Newton > everyone on Bridgerton now.” It has also been teased that Newton will be getting his own story arc and people cannot wait to find out what it is.

Mia Mikayla tweeted: “Newton is the new diva of Bridgerton”. Readers of The Viscount Who Loved Me, which season two of the Netflix show is based on, will know just how true this is. Kate’s trusted corgi is always getting himself in the middle of things in the book and ends up playing a big role in the main love story.
Fans have taken to calling the dog a main character, tweeting things like “Newton is the main star of bridgerton s2 and I will fight anyone who disagrees” and “WE NOW HAVE TWO PHOTOS OF THE MAIN HERO OF BRIDGERTON S2, CHONK SUPREME, NEWTON SHARMA.”
The actors spoke about working with Newton (real name Austin) on set in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Charithra Chandran, who plays Kate’s sister Edwina in season two, recalled a time when “he was so full of (treats), he just fell asleep on the set in the middle of his shot.” Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony, similarly spoke about the corgi’s love of food and remembered having to hold bits of sausage in his lap to get him to jump up.
Bailey said he didn’t get on with the pup, telling EW: “Austin played Newton and it’s a sterling, stunning performance, but do you know what? We didn’t get on.” Meanwhile Simone Ashley, who plays Kate, felt she had bonded with him.
We can’t wait to see Newton make his debut when the second season of Bridgerton is released on Netflix on March 25. We’re expecting sass, troublemaking, and a lot of cuteness.
