The Westmoreland police have charged a licensed firearm holder with breach of duty to securely store firearm and ammunition after his firearm was stolen from a drawer in his bedroom in Bluefields, Westmoreland on Sunday, January 15.
The businessman, Anthony Hawthorne, 54-year-old of the Tate Shafton section of the parish was charged on Thursday, March 2.
Reports from the Savanna-La-Mar Police are that at about 9:45 am, Hawthorne was at home when he reportedly placed his licensed a Sig Sauer 9mm with a magazine containing twelve 9mm cartridges in a drawer on his bedside table and went to use the bathroom.
He then proceeded to have a shower when he heard the sound of footsteps in his house and made an alarm.
When he exited the bathroom he saw a man running from his veranda. He then made checks in his bedside drawer and realized that his licensed firearm along with the magazine affixed was missing.
The police were subsequently alerted and on arrival of the police, neither the firearm nor the suspect was seen.
The accused was charged after a question and answer interview in the presence of his attorney.
