[ad_1]

By ETCanada.com Staff.

The classic TV game show “Password” is headed back to the small screen.

Originally airing between 1961 and 1975, “Password” has come back to life in several forms over the years but most recently as an occasional segment on Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show.” Now, Fallon will serve as star and executive producer of a full fledged spin-off-slash-reboot hosted by Keke Palmer.

The show sees two teams of two people — one civilian and one celebrity — compete against each other to solve word puzzles using word clues. Fallon will take the role of celebrity participant for one of the pairings each week and a rotating celebrity guest will take the spot on the opposing team. The winning team takes home $25,000.

According to Variety, actor Jon Hamm will appear on the premiere episode, which pays tribute to the late great Betty White. White frequently appeared on the original show and was married to original host Allen Ludden.

Other celebrity guests slated to appear include Yvette Nicole Brown, Tony Hale, Chelsea Handler, Heidi Klum, Joel McHale, Chrissy Metz, Martin Short, J.B. Smoove and Meghan Trainor.

The one-hour game show has a two-night premiere on August 9 and 10.

NBC dropped the first teaser for the series on Thursday, which TV Line called “sleek, and slick, and dramatically lit, and loud. In other words, many things the original show wasn’t.”

Todd and Julie Chrisley Speak Out After Guilty Verdict

[ad_1]

Speaking out. Chrisley Knows Best stars Todd Chrisley and his wife, Julie Chrisley, are opening up about their guilty verdict in their latest “Chrisley Confessions” podcast and how certain comments have reached the ears of their son Grayson.

Explaining that Grayson, 16, is “sensitive,” Todd, 53, said that despite the “overflowing of love and support,” there “has been some of those comments, and it does hurt [Grayson’s] feelings.”

“We’ve dealt with so much negative press here lately, and we’ve had negative press before, but not like we’ve had here since the verdict,” he added.

“This is a telling time for us as a family, of people who have reached out, and of people who haven’t reached out,” Julie, 49, added of the aftermath of the verdict, with Todd saying that one or two people haven’t reached out in support, and it is bothering them, but that they haven’t been involved in their lives.

The pair initially broke their silence after they were found guilty of fraud charges, with the couple’s lawyer said in a statement to Us Weekly on Tuesday, June 7, “Disappointed in the verdict. An appeal is planned.”

As In Touch previously reported, the jury reached a verdict in the Chrisleys’ federal fraud case. Todd was convicted of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States and tax fraud. Julie was convicted of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, tax fraud and wire fraud. They are facing up to 30 years in prison.

They were indicted in 2019 on 12 counts of tax evasion, bank and wire fraud and conspiracy. Todd denied the allegations in a lengthy statement via Instagram that August.

“It all started back in 2012, when we discovered that a trusted employee of ours had been stealing from us big time. I won’t go into details, but it involved all kinds of really bad stuff like creating phony documents forging our signatures, and threatening other employees with violence if they said anything. We even discovered that he illegally bugged our home,” he wrote at the time. “To get revenge, he took a bunch of his phony documents to the U.S. Attorney’s office and told them we had committed all kinds of financial crimes, like tax evasion and bank fraud. That got their attention all right, but once we had a chance to explain who he was and what he’d done to us, they realized it was all a bunch of nonsense and they sent him on his way.”

The businessman went on to claim that the former employee “persuaded a different set of investigators at the U.S. Attorney’s office not only to reopen the case but also to grant him immunity from prosecution for his own crimes and bring charges against us.”

“I’m telling you all this now because we have nothing to hide and have done nothing to be ashamed of,” he concluded his statement. “Not only do we know we’ve done nothing wrong, but we’ve got a ton of hard evidence and a bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it.”

When the case went to trial in May, the couple’s attorney, Bruce Morris, doubled down on the claims that former employee, Mark Braddock, had committed without the Chrisleys’ knowledge. In exchange for his cooperation in the trial, the government granted Braddock immunity in the case.

During the trial, Braddock also made claims about an alleged affair with Todd. In his closing statements on June 2, Morris slammed Braddock’s claims as “fantasy.” He added, “I suggest to you that Mark Braddock is the very picture of reasonable doubt.”

Tabloid Gossip Says Cher Apparently Furious Over Diana Ross’ Recent Performance

[ad_1]

Has a recent performance reignited bad blood between Diana Ross and Cher? One tabloid claims the singers’ feud is still alive and well. Here’s what we know.

Cher Gives Diana Ross The ‘Stink Eye’?

The latest edition of the National Enquirer reports Cher and Diana Ross are still locked in a bitter feud, decades after their original falling out. According to the article, Ross’ recent performance at Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee incited jealousy from her ex-bestie, Cher. “Seeing Diana strut her stuff at the Jubilee was tough for Cher to take,” an insider dishes. “In Cher’s way of thinking, it would’ve been nice to be invited since she’s the grande dame of Hollywood, not Diana.”

RELATED: Royal Gossip Says Kate Middleton Allegedly Had Nasty Showdown With Meghan Markle At Recent Royal Celebrations

The tipster reminds readers that things turned sour between the former friends when Kiss frontman Gene Simmons left the “Believe” songstress for Ross back in the late ’70s. “Cher was so in love with Gene. They were living together and everything, and then suddenly he was leaving her for Diana,” the snitch confides. “What really hurt Cher is she considered Diana a true friend. They were very close until Diana stabbed her in the back.”

Is Cher Jealous Of Diana Ross?

The truth behind Cher and Diana Ross’ falling out is far less dramatic than the magazine makes it out to be. In fact, it doesn’t seem like there was ever any bad blood between the two powerhouses. This notion was mostly upheld by a 2015 interview with Gene Simmons. In said report, Simmons told the Mirror how his and Ross’s relationship began.

“One Christmas I asked [Cher] what I should buy her and she said, ‘Call my friend Diana Ross, she will tell you exactly what I like as she is my best friend.’ So I called Diana up and we went shopping. Then our feelings for each other developed very fast and we started a relationship together. I guess thereafter Cher and Diana never spoke.”

But it would seem like Simmons’ memory wasn’t so reliable. According to an interview Simmons gave in 1980, Cher remained friendly with both Simmons and Ross after their breakup. She even attended a Kiss rehearsal with Ross shortly after the split.

And as recently as 2017, Cher posted a shoutout to her old friend. “Watch Diana,” Cher Tweeted. “She’s still breathtakingly beautiful, & electric on stage.”

So, looking at all of the facts, we’re highly skeptical of the tabloid’s story. While it’s fair to say Ross and Cher didn’t stay as close over the years, this talk of jealousy is complete nonsense. So, no, we don’t believe Cher was anything other than happy for her old friend as she performed at the Platinum Jubilee.

The Magazine On Cher And Diana Ross

While the National Enquirer‘s blasé treatment of Cher and Ross’ history is nowhere near justified, we can’t say it’s surprising. We’ve busted plenty of the tabloid’s stories about the singers in the past. Just last year, the outlet claimed Diana Ross was in dire health. Then the magazine argued that Cher was celebrating her birthday with a laundry list of plastic surgeries. And finally, the publication alleged Cher was struggling with “unrelenting pain” after a dental procedure. Clearly, the Enquirer isn’t trustworthy anywhere Cher or Diana Ross is concerned.

Joe Biden Needs to Meet the Moment on Abortion Rights

[ad_1]

President Joe Biden has vowed to do everything he can to fight for reproductive healthcare after the fall of Roe v. Wade, even calling on Thursday for a filibuster carve-out to protect abortion and other privacy rights. But a reported deal with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to appoint a conservative, anti-choice attorney to a federal court in Kentucky could contribute to doubts about the extent to which the administration grasps the severity of the situation — and its commitment to addressing it.

According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, Biden is planning to name Chad Meredith — a member of the Federalist Society who served as a deputy counsel to former Republican Governor Matt Bevins — to a lifetime federal court appointment as part of a deal with McConnell to get other White House nominees approved by the Senate. The White House did not comment on the reported agreement, saying it does not publicly discuss pending nominations or vacancies. But Kentucky Democrat John Yarmuth said Wednesday that the administration informed him of the coming move, which the Louisville congressman condemned. “I strongly oppose this deal and Meredith being nominated for the position,” Yarmuth said in a statement to the Courier-Journal. “The last thing we need is another extremist on the bench.”

“If the President makes that nomination, it is indefensible,” Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a Democrat, told the outlet, expressing hope that the appointment had at least been put “on pause.”

The report of the agreement came as Democratic lawmakers and voters called for stronger action to protect Americans’ reproductive rights in the wake of Supreme Court conservatives’ decision striking down Roe and upholding Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, a move Biden described as the “realization of an extreme ideology” and a “tragic error” by the right-wing justices.

“It just stuns me,” Biden said in an address following that 6-3 ruling. “This is a sad day for the country, in my view, but it doesn’t mean the fight is over.”

That fight is an uphill one, though. For years, Democrats have failed to show the same urgency in protecting abortion rights as Republicans have in seeking to strip them. Now, with states imposing draconian bans on the procedure in the wake of the Dobbs decision, national Democrats have limited options. The Biden administration is working on a slate of executive and agency actions to protect access to abortion medications and contraception and to help those in states where the procedure has been outlawed travel to other states for healthcare. On Thursday, Biden went further still, calling for the filibuster to be amended to allow the passage of legislation supporting privacy rights, including reproductive healthcare. (That came after a report published by Reuters Wednesday stating that “the White House is unlikely to take up the bold steps to protect women’s right to have an abortion that Democratic lawmakers have called for in recent days,” citing anonymous White House officials. A White House spokesperson disputed the report.)

“We have to codify Roe v. Wade into law,” Biden said. “If the filibuster gets in the way, it’s like voting rights. We should provide an exception for this.”

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

But, as with voting rights, such a carve-out is unlikely to happen right now: Conservative Democrats Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema steadfastly oppose doing anything they say would weaken the Senate procedure, and are unlikely to budge. Democrats could make that move if they gain seats in the November midterms; as Senator Elizabeth Warren and others have noted, they may only need to expand their majority by two to get around Manchin, Sinema, and the Republicans.

Doc Antle facing up to 20 years in prison for alleged wildlife trafficking

[ad_1]

A federal grand jury in South Carolina indicted five people on charges of wildlife trafficking and money laundering, including Bhagavan Mahamayavi Antle, who is also known as Kevin Antle or Doc Antle, and starred in the 2020 Netflix series Tiger King, the United States Justice Department said on Thursday local time.

The indictment alleges that Antle and others illegally trafficked wildlife in violation of federal law, and made false records regarding that wildlife.

The animals involved included lemurs, cheetahs and a chimpanzee, the Justice Department said in a statement.

The indictment names Andrew Sawyer, 52; Meredith Bybee, 51; Charles Sammut, 61; and Jason Clay, 42, along with Antle, 62.

Their representatives could not immediately be reached for comment.

Antle’s lawyer told a CBS affiliate that the indictment “was nothing we weren’t expecting.”

The indictment also alleged that in recent months Antle and Sawyer laundered more than $US500,000 (approx. $725,000) in cash.

They allegedly believed the cash to be the proceeds of an operation to smuggle immigrants across the Mexican border into the United States illegally.

Antle had allegedly used bulk cash receipts to purchase animals for which he could not use checks, and planned to conceal the cash he received by inflating tourist numbers at a wildlife tropical preserve in Myrtle Beach that he owned, according to the indictment.

Antle starred in Tiger King, the true crime series set in the world of private zoos and their eccentric owners, which became a worldwide phenomenon when it was aired in March 2020.

Antle and Sawyer each face a maximum of 20 years in federal prison for the charges related to money laundering, and each of the five people face up to five years for the charges related to wildlife trafficking.

Tiger King‘s biggest star, Joe Exotic, also recently had some trouble – but not necessarily with the law. Rather, he was unlucky in love.

Exotic is currently incarcerated himself, serving a 21-year prison sentence in an attempted murder via hitman case.

While he was serving his term, he met a fellow prisoner, John Graham, who then became his fiancé. The duo, however, recently broke up, and Exotic is also currently in the midst of a divorce from his estranged husband Dillon Passage.

Sandra Oh, Donovan Bailey among dozens appointed to Order of Canada

[ad_1]

Film and TV actress Sandra Oh and track champion Donovan Bailey are among dozens of performers, athletes, advocates and experts newly named to Canada’s highest civilian honour.

Gov. Gen. Mary Simon announced 85 appointees to the Order of Canada on Wednesday, touting luminaries in fields including film, music, science, politics, business, academics, sport and culture.

“Grey’s Anatomy” and “Killing Eve” star Oh was named an officer to the Order of Canada for her stage and screen success, while Bailey was named an officer for his track and field excellence and philanthropic commitment to youth and amateur athletes.

“For me, I just want to be a great example for young Canadians that they themselves can follow into my footsteps,” Bailey said when reached ahead of the announcement in Vancouver.

“Hopefully, I was one of those positive people who (inspire others to) believe that Canada should be positive and Canada should be confident and Canada can take on anybody and come out golden.”

Film director/screenwriter Francois Girard of Montreal and Angela James of Richmond Hill, Ont., who was one of the first superstars of women’s hockey, were also named officers for high degree of achievement or service to Canada.

New members of the order — who are honoured for distinguished service to a particular community or field — include Toronto music industry veteran Al Mair; former MP Nancy Uqquujuq Karetak-Lindell of Arviat, Nunavut; and HIV/AIDS researcher Martin T. Schechter of Vancouver.

Karetak-Lindell says she was just five years old when she began thinking about how she could serve her small northern community.

Sixty years later, she can look back on a career of public service that includes working for the region’s council and education authority and as a Liberal member of Parliament from 1997 to 2008.

“I come from a family that was taught to help others and to do it with care and love and respect, without looking to be recognized for it. So to think that people feel that I have deserved to be given this Order of Canada is a real honour,” she said when reached in Arviat.

“And of course being Inuk it means that much more with the Governor General of today being an Inuk, too.”

One of 10 children, Karetak-Lindell says she was encouraged to respect others and never forget where she was from. She credits role models including her uncle and Inuit leader Tagak Curley; her father, who was a special constable with the RCMP; and her mother, “a woman before her time” who served on local councils and organizations dominated by men.

Story continues below advertisement

“Our community is one of people who constantly try to help their fellow person. And that is the environment that I grew up in, along with my parents’ influence. But this community always makes me feel that I could do more because they so believe in me to be able to do whatever I want to do,” she said.

Mair earns his honour after working in the music industry since the age of 12 when he sold records in a music store after school.

He went on to help grow the Canadian scene by helping launch various careers, including that of singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot, whom he managed for eight years. Mair also led several music organizations including the Canadian Independent Music Association and the independent label Attic Records.

He traces his passion to Expo 67 in Montreal, a spectacular world fair that marked Canada’s centennial and showcased homegrown talent.

“I was convinced the Canadian artists could be at least equal to artists from any other country in the world, if not superior, and I always felt that way,” said Mair, whose label roster included Lee Aaron, Triumph, Maestro Fresh-Wes, the Nylons, and Haywire.

“There was a lot of negativity among broadcasters that Canadian artists were second-rate and weren’t good enough. It was a real challenge to convince the broadcasters and it took literally decades before Canadian artists were fully accepted by the broadcast industry.”

Story continues below advertisement

Other recipients announced Wednesday include Dr. William Clark of London, Ont., a nephrologist who researched the long-term health consequences of Canada’s worst-ever E. coli contamination in Walkerton, Ont., in 2000; and Hereditary Chief Stephen Joseph Augustine of Elsipogtog First Nation, N.B., for advancing Mi’kmaq studies and awareness.

Recipients will be presented with their insignia at a later date in Ottawa, depending on their availability. Rideau Hall hosts an average of four investiture ceremonies a year.

Honorees get a silver insignia shaped like a six-pointed snowflake with a red annulus in the middle and a royal crown above. It also features a stylized Maple Leaf with the order’s motto: Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam, which means, “They desire a better country.”

Created in 1967, the Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. More than 7,600 people from all sectors of society have been invested.

Future Islands Frontman Samuel T. Herring Joins Apple Series Cast In Acting Debut – Deadline

[ad_1]

Future Islands frontman Samuel T. Herring has been cast opposite LaKeith Stanfield in The Changeling, Apple TV+’s upcoming drama series based on Victor LaValle’s bestselling book of the same name. The role marks Herring’s acting debut. Adina Porter and Clark Backo also star in the drama from Annapurna and Apple Studios.

Written and adapted by Kelly Marcel (Cruella, Venom), The Changeling is a fairytale for grown-ups. A horror story, a parenthood fable and a perilous odyssey through a New York City you didn’t know existed.

Stanfield stars as Apollo, a passionate rare book hunter. Herring plays William Wheeler, a man who befriends Stanfield’s Apollo in a quest to win back his wife and children. Porter plays Apollo’s mother, Lillian, and Backo is Emmy, Apollo’s wife.

In LaValle’s book, when Apollo and Emma have their baby, Brian, it feels like both a reward and a challenge for the new dad. Apollo, the son of a single mother, had been scraping by as a bookseller who hunts estate and garage sales for rare first editions, so even the unusual circumstance of Brian’s birth (on a stalled subway train) seems like a blessing, as does the way Apollo stumbles across a first edition of To Kill a Mockingbird (inscribed by Harper Lee to Truman Capote, no less) shortly thereafter. But after some young-parent squabbles and inexplicable images on their smartphones foreshadow trouble, the story turns nightmarish.

Marcel wrote the adaptation and serves as showrunner and executive producer. Queen & Slim helmer and Insecure alum Melina Matsoukas will direct. Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, Patrick Chu, and Ali Krug executive produce on behalf of Annapurna; Matsoukas executive produces through her De La Revolución Films. Stanfield and Marcel also executive produce with Khaliah Neal co-executive producing. LaValle also serves as co-executive producer.

Herring is best known as the enigmatic frontman of Baltimore synth pop band Future Islands. The band came to national prominence in 2014 with their fourth album Singles released by 4AD. Its lead single “Seasons (Waiting on You)” was considered the best song of 2014 by Pitchfork and NME.
