ELMO GETS HIS COVID-19 VACCINE SHOT IN NEW PSA

[ad_1]

Parents of children six-months and older have been waiting and waiting to get their children vaccinated against COVID-19. Well, the wait is over and the green light has been given to vaccinate this age group. And of course, these little one’s will more-than-likely be afraid of the jab, but they have a familiar face who might bring them a little calming vibes-Elmo. Elmo gets his COVID-19 vaccine shot in new PSA.

In the clip, Louie, Elmo’s father, made sure to consult 3-year-old Elmo’s doctor before allowing him to get vaccinated.

“I had a lot of questions about Elmo getting the covid vaccine. Was it safe? Was it the right decision? I talked to our pediatrician so I could make the right choice,” he explained.

Louie added, “I learned that Elmo getting vaccinated is the best way to keep himself, our friends, neighbors and everyone else healthy and enjoying the things they love.”

And just what did Elmo have to say about getting his shot?

He said, there was “a little pinch, but it was okay [when getting the shot].”

Although he had questions in the beginning, Louie concluded with, “Elmo getting vaccinated is the best way to keep himself, our friends, neighbors and everyone else healthy.”

However, Louie isn’t the only parent that has had questions about getting their little one’s vaccinated.

In a recent article, Dr. Drews, medical director of infection prevention and control at Houston Methodist Hospital, answered five very important questions regarding vaccinating young patients.

“Children are less likely to become severely ill with COVID-19 than adults, but there is still a risk,” said Dr. Drews. “Additionally, young children can spread COVID-19 while ill, even if the infection is mild or they’re asymptomatic.”

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) states that more than 2 million COVID-19 cases have been reported among young children to date.

To read exactly which questions Dr. Drews addresses, click here.  Way to go, Elmo! You are showing the little one’s just how to do it!

‘Teen Mom’ Stars’ Ex-Boyfriends: Then and Now Photos

[ad_1]

Fans of the Teen Mom franchise have seen their fair share of love interests come in and out of the ladies’ lives since the series debuted on MTV in December 2009. Of all the young moms, only four of the current cast members are still in a relationship with their children’s fathers – Teen Mom OG’s Catelynn Baltierra (née Lowell) and Mackenzie Mckee (née Douthit), plus two moms from Teen Mom 2 who were originally cast for Teen Mom: Young & Pregnant, Jade Cline and Ashley Jones

After making their debut on season 1 of MTV’s 16 & Pregnant in July 2009, Catelynn married Tyler Baltierra in August 2015. The Michigan natives have gone on to welcome three more daughters since the birth of their first child, Carly, whom they placed for adoption as teenage parents.

Despite having to kiss a few frogs along the way, some of the moms have managed to find their Prince Charming. After a long and tumultuous relationship with her eldest daughter’s father, Adam Lind, Chelsea Houska finally found her perfect match in Cole DeBoer after meeting at a gas station. The South Dakota natives wed in October 2016, before welcoming three more children together and building their dream home. Though they have since left the franchise, the DeBoer family is set to return to reality TV after landing their own home renovation show on HGTV called Farmhouse Fabulous.

Like Chelsea, mother of three Maci Bookout found her dream guy, Taylor McKinney, after calling it quits with high school sweetheart and father of her eldest son, Ryan Edwards. In addition to Bentley, Maci shares daughter Jayde and son Maverick with her husband.

Not every teen mom has been so lucky in love, however. Whether it’s Jenelle Evans‘ dramatic relationships with ex-husband Courtland Rogers and ex-fiancé Nathan Griffith, or Kailyn Lowry’s complicated love life, from splitting with her eldest son’s father, Jo Rivera, to her messy divorce with ex-husband Javi Marroquin, to her back-and-forths with ex Chris Lopez, these girls are hard to keep up with.

Dubious Insider Says Jennifer Lopez Apparently Ruining Ben Affleck Wedding, Supposedly $1 Million Over Budget

[ad_1]

Is Jennifer Lopez turning into a bad person? One report says wedding planning is bringing out the worst in Lopez, and it has Ben Affleck searching for a way out. Here’s what’s going on.

‘J.Lo’s The Ultimate Bridezilla!’

Per In Touch, planning her second wedding to Ben Affleck has brought out the absolute worst in Jennifer Lopez. She “has turned into the bride from hell,” a source says. Everything apparently must be perfect for her final trip down the aisle, and it’s that perfectionism that is sullying what should be a happy time.

RELATED: Tabloid Rumor Says Kurt Russell Supposedly Bickering With Goldie Hawn Over Possible Wedding

“She’s going to extremes to have the ceremony of the century with Ben and is so determined for everything to be absolutely perfect that she’s become a bridezilla,” the insider reveals. Lopez is allegedly even shunning her wedding planner because of a need to stay in control of even the faintest details—even the weight of the invitations was apparently a point of concern for her. She’s supposedly changed her mind on flowers dozens of times.

Guests are expected to dress luxuriously and not bring their phones, the source says, because Lopez wants to use all her footage for a TV and magazine deal. The insider concludes, “The wedding is already $1 million over budget.”

Is Jennifer Lopez Losing Her Mind?

As this story notes, Jennifer Lopez blames excessive media attention for her and Affleck’s split in the early noughties. As such, the Gigli stars are determined to keep all details of the second shot at an Affleck-Lopez wedding as secret as possible. Paradoxically, this gives tabloids even more room to thrive, for they can openly speculate on what is happening behind closed doors.

There are no publicly available wedding details surrounding Affleck and Lopez’s impending union, so this story is impossible to believe. It claims to know minuscule details, like the source of the wedding orchids and the weight of the wedding invitation. We don’t even know big details like location and a date, let alone how much the invites weigh.

A Note On ‘Bridezilla’

Clearly, this is not a legitimate news story. No, this is just a chance for In Touch to use sexist language and label Lopez a “bridezilla.” The term is extremely common on tabloid covers. Lopez joins Caitlyn Jenner, Meghan Markle, and Jennifer Lawrence in the club of folks branded with the term.

Heck, this isn’t even the first time In Touch has labeled Lopez as one. Last year, it claimed Lopez was forcing Affleck to propose just so she could beat Jennifer Garner to the altar. There was absolutely no truth to that story. Between the impossible details, bad track record, and sexist rhetoric, we know that this story is totally false.

R. Kelly Has Been Sentenced to 30 Years

[ad_1]

When a federal jury found R. Kelly guilty on nine charges related to racketeering and sex trafficking in September, it brought some measure of legal closure to his long trail of abuse. Accusations of the singer’s sexual misconduct began surfacing nearly three decades ago: Over the course of his career, Kelly married a 15-year-old Aaliyah, faced and was acquitted on child-pornography charges, and, calling himself the Pied Piper of R&B, cultivated an artistic persona that positioned sex as a matter of his eccentric genius.

At Kelly’s sentencing hearing in a Brooklyn courtroom on Wednesday, Judge Ann Marie Donnelly, in announcing her decision, reflected on the scale of his abuses: “These crimes were calculated and carefully planned for almost 25 years.” She sentenced the singer, who worked at the highest rungs of pop and R&B, to 30 years in prison.

Kelly’s trial lasted six weeks and included testimony from over 40 witnesses. Prosecutors described the singer as the leader of a criminal enterprise made up of his entourage and employees who leveraged his celebrity in service of recruiting his scores of underage victims. Prosecutors had requested a sentence of at least 25 years, while Kelly’s attorneys asked for 10 or fewer. Kelly is 55 years old.

Wednesday’s hearing expanded on the horrors delineated during his trial last year, and added to them a level of detail about the enduring impact of Kelly’s abuse. A woman testifying under the name Addie, who said Kelly sexually assaulted her in 1994, said in her victim statement in the courtroom that she has suffered “within my heart from emotional breakdowns and thoughts of suicide and self-sabotage.”

Lizzette Martinez, who said she met Kelly when she was 17 years old in 1995, said that a “lifetime of depression and PTSD” began with his sexual assaults. She recalled how his friends and entourage looked on as she became his “sex slave” for years.

Turning to Kelly, she said, “Robert, you destroyed so many people’s lives.”

“I feel like I should refresh your memory,” said another woman, identified as Jane Doe No. 2, as she addressed Kelly. The woman met Kelly when he was 31 and she was 19. She recounted how Kelly forced her to perform oral sex on him in a car filled with his 30-something friends.

“Do you remember that?” she said in a firm voice.

As Kelly whispered with his lawyers, the woman paused her own statement: “I’m sorry, I didn’t want to interrupt his conversation.”

Outside of such interactions with his counsel, Kelly didn’t visibly move or react during the victim statements or as Donnelly read his sentence.

While Kelly’s trial was the first high-profile case of the #MeToo era in which most of the victims were Black, race was rarely mentioned in the court proceedings. Kelly amassed success and acclaim across the landscape of American pop music, and more specifically in the Black traditions of R&B and gospel. As Kitti Jones, who has said that Kelly abused her during their relationship between 2011 and 2013, spoke on Wednesday, she pointed to the time that passed before Kelly’s crimes caught up to him.

“Knowing his fanbase looked like many of his victims,” Jones said, “he knew the public would never believe them.”

The only words Kelly had for the courtroom, just before his sentence was delivered, were: “Yes, your honor, that’s my wish.” He was confirming his lawyer Jennifer Bonjean’s remark that he didn’t wish to address the judge or his victims, citing his other pending cases. (Kelly also faces sex crimes charges in Minnesota at the state level and federal charges in Illinois, all of which he has denied.) As in Kelly’s sentencing submission to the court, Bonjean said on Wednesday that mitigating factors for Kelly’s sentence should include his own history of childhood abuse.

“He accepts that he is a flawed individual,” she said. “He does sit here with regrets.”

Donnelly, in explaining her sentencing decision, said she took Kelly’s experience of abuse into account, but only up to a point: “Even if it is a form of an explanation, it is certainly not an excuse.” She wondered how it all could’ve happened in plain sight.

“I don’t know why these people turned a blind eye,” Donnelly said, referring to the members of Kelly’s enterprise. “Maybe it just became normal to these people.”

The sentence she decided on is about as long as the record of Kelly’s abuse. For decades, he operated with near-total impunity as his career flourished. A woman using the pseudonym Angela on Wednesday spoke to how the truths of Kelly’s life and his work had finally begun to converge: “Your self-proclaimed alter ego of the Pied Piper could not exist without the living, breathing Robert Sylvester Kelly.”

R. Kelly sentenced to 30 years in prison in sex trafficking case – National

[ad_1]

Fallen R&B superstar R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday for using his fame to subject young fans — some just children — to systematic sexual abuse.

Through tears and anger, several of Kelly’s accusers told a court, and him, that he had preyed on them and misled his fans.

“You made me do things that broke my spirit. I literally wished I would die because of how low you made me feel,” said one unnamed survivor, directly addressing a Kelly who kept his hands folded and his eyes downcast.

“Do you remember that?” she added.

Kelly, 55, didn’t speak at his sentencing, where he also was ordered to pay a $100,000 fine. The Grammy-winning, multiplatinum-selling singer and songwriter was convicted last year of racketeering and sex trafficking at a trial that gave voice to accusers who had previously wondered if their stories were being ignored because they were Black women.

“Although sex was certainly a weapon that you used, this is not a case about sex. It’s a case about violence, cruelty and control,” U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly told him.

The sentence caps a slow-motion fall for Kelly, who was adored by legions of fans and sold millions of albums even after allegations about his abuse of young girls began circulating publicly in the 1990s.

Widespread outrage over Kelly’s sexual misconduct didn’t come until the #MeToo reckoning, reaching a crescendo after the release of the docuseries Surviving R. Kelly.

Kelly’s lawyers had argued he should get no more than 10 years in prison because he had a traumatic childhood “involving severe, prolonged childhood sexual abuse, poverty, and violence.”

As an adult with “literacy deficiencies,” the star was “repeatedly defrauded and financially abused, often by the people he paid to protect him,” his lawyers said.

The hitmaker is known for work including the 1996 hit I Believe I Can Fly and the cult classic Trapped in the Closet, a multi-part tale of sexual betrayal and intrigue.

Allegations that Kelly abused young girls began circulating publicly in the 1990s. He was sued in 1997 by a woman who alleged sexual battery and sexual harassment while she was a minor, and he later faced criminal child pornography charges related to a different girl in Chicago. A jury there acquitted him in 2008, and he settled the lawsuit.

All the while, Kelly continued to sell millions of albums.

The Brooklyn federal court jury convicted him after hearing that he used his entourage of managers and aides to meet girls and keep them obedient, an operation that prosecutors said amounted to a criminal enterprise.

Kelly, born Robert Sylvester Kelly, used his “fame, money and popularity” to systematically “prey upon children and young women for his own sexual gratification,” prosecutors wrote in a court filing earlier this month.

Several accusers testified that Kelly subjected them to perverse and sadistic whims when they were underage.

The accusers alleged they were ordered to sign nondisclosure forms and were subjected to threats and punishments such as violent spankings if they broke what one referred to as “Rob’s rules.”

Some said they believed the videotapes he shot of them having sex would be used against them if they exposed what was happening.

According to testimony, Kelly gave several accusers herpes without disclosing he had an STD, coerced a teenage boy to join him for sex with a naked girl who emerged from underneath a boxing ring in his garage, and shot a shaming video that showed one victim smearing feces on her face as punishment for breaking his rules.

Kelly has denied any wrongdoing. He didn’t testify at his trial, but his then-lawyers portrayed his accusers as girlfriends and groupies who weren’t forced to do anything against their will and stayed with him because they enjoyed the perks of his lifestyle.

Evidence also was presented about a fraudulent marriage scheme hatched to protect Kelly after he feared he had impregnated R&B phenom Aaliyah in 1994 when she was just 15. Witnesses said they were married in matching jogging suits using a license falsely listing her age as 18; he was 27 at the time.

Aaliyah worked with Kelly, who wrote and produced her 1994 debut album, Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number. She died in a plane crash in 2001 at age 22.

Story continues below advertisement

An earlier defense memo suggested prosecutors’ arguments for a higher sentence overreached by falsely claiming Kelly participated in the paying of a bribe to a government official in order to facilitate the illegal marriage.

The Associated Press does not name people who say they have been sexually assaulted or abused, unless they come forward publicly. The women who spoke at Kelly’s sentencing were identified only by first names or pseudonyms.

Kelly has been jailed without bail since in 2019. He’s still facing child pornography and obstruction of justice charges in Chicago, where a trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 15.

L.A. Covid Cases Approach 4-Month High As Holiday Weekend Approaches – Deadline

[ad_1]

Ahead of the July 4 weekend, Los Angeles County today reported 6,529 daily Covid infections, which is very nearly the highest total the county has seen since early February. Only the 7,209 recorded on May 31 is higher.

L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said earlier this week that daily infection numbers may be leveling out, but today’s count plus a test positivity rate that has very nearly doubled in just over two weeks would seem to indicate otherwise.

On Tuesday, June 14 L.A.’s test positivity was 6.5%. Today, the rate is 12.9%. That’s a massive jump for a number that is not only a percentage of total tests but also a 7-day average.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-positive patients in Los Angeles County hospitals increased by 32 people to 779, according to the latest state figures. Of those patients, 77 were being treated in intensive care, up from 68 the previous day.

Ferrer told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday that while hospitals over the past week averaged 720 Covid patients per day, a 16% increase from the previous week, the rate of new admissions has actually gone down.

According to Ferrer, the county is currently averaging 6.6 new daily Covid admissions per 100,000 residents, down from 7.3 per 100,000 a week ago. It was the first decline in that rate in the past few weeks.

The rate is being closely watched, because if the county reaches 10 new daily admissions per 100,000 residents, it will move to the “high” virus activity category as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If the county stays in the high category for two consecutive weeks, officials will reimpose a mandatory indoor mask-wearing mandate.

Health officials had initially estimated that the county might reach the high category by the end of June, but with the pace of new admissions slowing, the estimate was pushed back last week to mid-July. On Tuesday, Ferrer said if the current pace holds, the county won’t reach the high category until the end of July.

There are two wild cards, however.

The first is the increased prevalence of the more-transmissible BA.5 and BA.4 Omicron variants, which are also thought to be better at evading the immunity conferred by vaccines and/or prior infections.

While the number of identified cases of each variant in Los Angeles is very small, so are the number of positive samples genomically sequenced to determine the causal Covid strain.

According to CDC data, BA.5 and BA.4 now represent the majority of new cases seen last week across the U.S. and also more specifically in the three-state region comprised of California, Arizona and Nevada.

The second wild card is the upcoming holiday weekend.

In a statement Tuesday afternoon, Ferrer urged residents to exercise caution against virus spread over the Fourth of July, mainly by getting vaccinated.

“Residents can also reduce the chance of getting or spreading Covid-19 by wearing a mask and doing an at-home test before indoor gatherings and events,” she said. “If someone does test positive or feel sick, they should stay away from others to prevent infecting others. As we celebrate this weekend, let’s make an effort to take actions that protect our friends, family members, and co-workers who may be at elevated risk.”

Nina Dobrev Reveals Real-Life Romance Drama on ‘The Vampire Diaries’

[ad_1]

Date Night Nina Dobrev Shaun White Look So In Love Cannes

Yikes! Nina Dobrev revealed her role on The Vampire Diaries caused major relationship drama – after she got cast and her then-boyfriend didn’t!

“They were gonna choose him [for the role of Damon Salvatore],” Dobrev, 33, said during a Wednesday, June 29, episode of Jessica Szohr’s “XOXO” podcast. “They ended up not choosing him, but I got cast. And then it got awkward.”

The Bulgaria native shared that shortly after she landed the part, the relationship came to an abrupt end. “We broke up,” she said.

Brooding bad boy Damon Salvatore was eventually portrayed by Ian Somerhalder, who Dobrev dated from 2010 to 2013. Despite their split, The Then Came You actress (Who has been dating Shaun White since 2020) and Pulse star (who has been married to Nikki Reed since 2015) have managed to remain friends and even continued to play love interests on screen.

“I don’t think that’s weird at all,” the Degrassi alum said in regards to her post-romantic relationship with the Louisiana native, 44, during a January 2019 episode of Watch What Happens Live. “I think that [he and Reed] have a beautiful baby [daugther, Bohdi], and they are happy and so am I. What’s bad about that?”

Two years prior, both Somerhalder and Reed, 34, addressed their friendly relationship with Dobrev and noted how damaging rumors of drama between the two women can be to read. The Twilight star shared a photo via Instagram of the three of them smiling, while the V-Wars alum reposted the snap on his own Instagram, asking fans to “stop spreading hate everywhere,” before adding, “there’s already too much of that right now in our world.”

Dobrev’s whirlwind romance with White, 35, began in February 2020 when fans noticed that they had shared similar photos from a trip to South Africa. One month later, they were photographed together for the first time while enjoying a bike ride in Malibu.

In April 2020, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that the two “were enjoying their time getting to know each other,” adding, “Nina really likes Shaun, and they both laugh a lot together.”

The couple made their relationship Instagram official in May 2020. An insider told Us at the time that the duo were “living together” amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “They’re super compatible and both free-spirited people” who are “comfortable around each other and supportive of one another in their fields,” the source added.

Since confirming their romance, the pair have used social media to highlight their relationship — and poke fun at each other whenever possible. “The person in this photo is the funniest, most charming, sexiest, and hardest working person I know. The other person is my boyfriend,” Dobrev captioned a photo of the couple on his 35th birthday. “Happy birthday baby, thank you for always being older than me. @shaunwhite.”
