A teenage girl allegedly behind the wheel of a car that was swerving recklessly in a Perth car park — all while three young women dangled out windows — has been charged by police.
Fremantle Police revealed they had located a 17-year-old woman on Thursday, who they say was driving a white Hyundai i30 hatchback earlier this week through Cockburn Gateway Shopping Centre’s rooftop car park.
Shocking footage posted to Facebook on Tuesday night showed a hatchback with red p-plates screeching across empty parking bays.
Three young women were filmed screaming as they hung from the car’s open windows.
WA Police told 7NEWS they were investigating the incident on Wednesday night and by Thursday, a 17-year-old girl’s car was being towed away.
“A 17-year-old female from Yangebup has been charged with one count of ‘Reckless Driving’,” police said on Thursday afternoon.
Road safety advocate Robert Pike, who lost both of his legs in a car crash at age 17, said the alleged behaviour was concerning.
“It’s all a joke, and it’s all fun until someone gets injured or someone dies… it can easily happen,” he said.
Mr Pike lost three of his friends in the car crash after the speeding driver hit a puddle before veering into a tree.
“The reality is that video that I’ve just seen could have gone bad really quickly, just like my story.”
“My hope is that they hear my message and that type of behaviour doesn’t happen.”
The 17-year-old is due to front court on August 1.
