Rumors Surrounding Josh O’Connor’s Potential Role as New James Bond
Speculation is rife regarding actor Josh O’Connor potentially taking on the iconic role of James Bond. If confirmed, this would not be O’Connor’s first foray into a prominent UK character. In 2021, he was awarded the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor for his portrayal of Prince Charles in the acclaimed Netflix series The Crown.
During his time on the show, O’Connor was encouraged to explore unexpected facets of his character. He described his approach to playing Prince Charles by likening it to a complex persona similar to that of Walter White from Breaking Bad. “Our job was to make people feel sorry for Charles,” he stated in a 2020 interview with The Guardian. “So that in season four, when he transforms into a sometimes monstrous character, we understand his journey.” This dramatic evolution echoes the darker narratives seen in recent James Bond films starring Daniel Craig, with whom O’Connor shares a connection through their collaboration in Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man.
In a recent conversation with the BBC, O’Connor neither confirmed nor denied the casting rumors surrounding him. His representatives have been contacted for comment but have yet to respond.
Reflecting on the mere suggestion of being considered for such a prestigious role, O’Connor remarked, “To be considered in that same sort of bracket is extraordinary. It’s an incredibly bizarre pinch-me moment…even being uttered in that same sentence and being considered for something like that. But I am afraid, there is nothing to say beyond that.”
