Todd Kane’s Charlton Athletic career has got off to an unfortunate start with the Coventry City loanee set to be missing for a number of weeks.
The 29-year-old came off with a hamstring injury in the first half of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Barnsley.
Kane is a free agent in the summer and his move to SE7 was about landing a regular run of matches.
He will sit out Saturday’s fixture at Peterborough United.
“Todd has unfortunately got a hamstring issue so it’s going to be a number of weeks before he returns to the team,” said Holden, in his pre-match press conference.
Fulham defender Steven Sessegnon, on a season-long loan deal, was a late withdrawal in the warm-up before the Tykes game.
“Steven was disappointed that he had to pull out of the game last week,” said Holden. “He just felt something in his knee but that’s something that he’s been managing since he came to the club. He was actually on the grass again this morning for the first time.
“We’re assessing him but it’s just an issue we’re having to manage.

“It’s not ideal, particularly for a young player, but his attitude is fantastic. He always puts himself up for selection when possible, but last week it was just a little bit too sore. He just felt something in the warm-up and we had to make the change. The boys responded really well in a little bit of adversity, I have to say.”
Charlton hold an interest in Blackburn’s Tayo Edun and our publication had been told recently they were close to securing him on loan. A sore Achilles saw him withdraw from U21 action the other day but Rovers head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson says he is available for their match at Bristol City this weekend.
Asked if Kane and Sessegnon’s issues have reshaped the club’s transfer approach, Holden said: “We’ve been looking for someone in that position (left-back) for a while now.
“It’s not easy because you think there’s one close, and then things change all the time. I forgot how mad this was at my previous job when I was at Bristol City.”
