Drive-thru food pantry next week in Galion
GALION — The Galion City Schools, in partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, will hold the Crawford County Mobile Drive-Thru Pantry from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Galion Middle School.
Second Harvest will distribute free assorted boxes of shelf-stable food, fresh produce, frozen meat, milk and more. Those wishing to participate are asked to preregister online at bit.ly/SH-FB_DEC28. Registration is not required but highly recommended. Each household receiving food is required to present a photo ID. Those families who cannot attend but have another individual pick up food for them must pre-register and provide a copy of a photo ID to present at the time of food pick-up.
Food will only be placed in the trunk. Two households per vehicle are permitted.

Red Cross seeks donors for Richland County blood drives
The following four blood drives are scheduled for Richland County during the final week of 2022:
- 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., Tuesday, OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, 335 Glessner Ave.
- noon – 6 p.m., Wednesday, Richland Mall, 2209 Richland Mall
- 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Thursday, Mansfield Engineered Components, 1776 Harrington Memorial
- 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, Richland Mall, 2209 Richland Mall
There’s also a Christmas Eve drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Richland Mall.
The American Red Cross says it’s important for donors — especially type O blood donors and platelet donors — to give now to ensure hospitals have the blood they need into the new year. Schedule an appointment by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
All who come to give through Jan. 2 will get a long-sleeved Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.
Galion HS students create checkerboards for Middle School ROAR program
GALION — In November, Galion High School launched a before-and after-school program called ROAR (Resources, Opportunities, Achievement and Readiness), which focuses on providing academic support in math and language arts. In addition, through ROAR, high school students can participate in Galion’s existing work-study programs and the newly established carpentry skills program.
Recently, high school students participating in the carpentry program worked together with students in the high school woodworking class to design and construct checkerboards and carved boxes to hold the checkers. The finished products are being loaned to the middle school ROAR students for use in their logic games sessions where they problem-solve and exercise their thinking and reasoning skills.
