Government has signed a service-level agreement with the preferred bidder for a new mining rights database considered critical to unlocking exploration investment in South Africa’s resources sector.
Tseliso Maqubela, Deputy Director-General (DDG) of mineral and petroleum regulation in the Department of Mineral Resources, confirmed the service-level agreement with the Canadian-South African PMG Consortium was signed on Monday.
This comes as frustration has mounted over continued delays in finalising the contract which will see PMG Consortium will design, implement and maintain a new mining licensing system.
