Deal over? Kaizer Chiefs suffer crushing Percy Tau blow!

Kaizer Chiefs have recently expressed an interest in Al Ahly attacker Percy Tau, with the possibility of signing him.

Tau has one more year left on his deal with Al Ahly, and Chiefs are believed to be watching closely.

The Bafana Bafana international was in scintillating form for Al Ahly prior to the 2023 Afcon in Ivory Coast. He ended the 2022/23 season with 17 goal contributions in 42 games. That saw his name linked with overseas interest once again. A promising start to the season saw Tau get six goals but he seems to have stagnated on them, with no assists. His form from the previous seemed to be the driving point for contract extension talks.

Al Ahly and Tau not agreeing on new contract

This new contract was set to make Tau the most paid player on the African continent. According to Egyptian reports, it would’ve been a three-year deal. That would’ve have seen the 29-year-old earning R23 million annually. It would then increase by R1.9 million in the first year. Then R2.8 million in the second and then R3.8 million in the final year. That would’ve seen the attacker spend the rest of his prime years at Al Ahly. 

According to the last report, Al Ahly had backtracked on that offer, opting to cash in on the player instead. It was believed that the club went back to the drawing board and decided to continue with a new contract for Tau. But on revised terms which were not as lucrative. This publication then reported that the Egyptian giants were ready to sell for a good price. This, seems to have also sent Chiefs into high alert. 

But now according to KickOff.com Al Ahly have already rejected an approach from Chiefs for Tau. 

Chiefs advances still rejected!

“Following reports linking Percy Tau with DStv Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs, his club Al Ahly’s stance on the matter is now said to have been revealed. The South African club has made contact with the Red Devils to enquire about the player’s availability, according to Egyptian journalist Mohamed Shabana, per Aiwa Egypt. Despite Chiefs’ suggested interest in the former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker, however, Shabana also stated that their advances were immediately rejected by Ahly’s planning committee.” Wrote the publication.

This seems like a crushing blow to Chiefs, who seemed really intent on making a statement signing in Tau.
