A man was arrested after driving almost 100km over the speed limit in his Mercedes along Indian Ocean Drive.
The 61-year-old driver was caught driving 206km in a 110km zone on January 26 along Indian Ocean Drive near Lancelin Road, Karakin.
Police camera operators immediately notified nearby police officers, which led to Jurien Bay police pulling over the East Perth man near Cervantes.
He was arrested and his white Mercedes AMG was impounded.
State Traffic commander Mike Bell said the driver was risking others’ lives.
“Anybody driving at such high speed is not only risking their lives but also risking the lives of road users and people in the vicinity,” he said.
“No apology for taking this no-tolerance approach to reckless driving and we use all laws available to us in circumstances like this including the seizure and impounding of vehicles.”
The driver was charged with reckless driving by speed and will face the Joondalup Magistrates Court on March 23.
