Whilst Christmas is not a widely celebrated national holiday, it is becoming more popular, especially in larger cities and among younger people. Here is a guide containing some of the most popular things that locals do to embrace the Christmas spirit.
Decorating the House
One way that Thais celebrate Christmas is by decorating their homes and streets with colourful lights and decorations. Many people also exchange gifts with friends and family, and some even give gifts to their coworkers or employees.
Eating Traditional Christmas Dishes
Food is also an important part of Christmas celebrations in Thailand. Most Thais enjoy eating traditional Christmas dishes, such as roast turkey and plum pudding, as well as local favourites like sticky rice with mango. If you are staying at a luxury hotel in Phuket the likes of SAii Laguna Phuket, all these local favourites will be at your fingertips to enjoy.
Attending Special Christmas Events
Another way that Thais celebrate Christmas is by attending special Christmas events and festivals, such as carol singing or Christmas markets. These events often feature traditional Christmas activities, such as Santa Claus, Christmas trees, and Christmas carols.
Exchanging Christmas Cards
One popular Christmas tradition in Thailand is the exchange of Christmas cards. Many Thais send cards to their loved ones, often with a special message or poem written inside.
