A firm, DKK Nigeria in partnership with Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has inaugurated tax clubs in Lagos secondary schools.
The initiative is aimed at imparting comprehensive tax knowledge in young children right from school.
The initiative, named ‘Tax Trybe’ is driven by the goal of nurturing a profound understanding of taxation among young students, shaping them into future tax ambassadors.
Acknowledging the potential perception of taxation as a complex subject, the firm assured of plans to introduce innovative and engaging approaches to make learning both enjoyable and comprehensible.
The launch brought together representatives from secondary schools in Lagos Districts 2 and 4, DKK Nigeria and officials from the state internal revenue service.
Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, the Head of Corporate Communications, LIRS, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, said the initiative was part of the agency’s commitment to foster knowledge and accessibility to tax education.
She said: “This collaboration drives a culture that instills a sense of responsibility and an understanding of taxation from an early age. With the initiative, we aim to build a tax-literate and informed community, where youths are empowered to become financially literate and socially responsible citizens, who will actively contribute to the socio-economic growth of the state and Nigeria at large.”
Recognising the role of educators in shaping young minds, the agency used the occasion to unveil a tax guide aimed at equipping teachers with necessary tools and materials to simplify the complexities of tax education, fostering effective teaching and inspiring young minds to become responsible citizens who understood the significance of tax contributions.
She disclosed that the pilot phase involved collaboration with 20 schools and encouraged others to join the growing Tax Trybe movement.
