Byron Webster has signed a new contract at Bromley.
It was the former Millwall centre-back’s ice-cool penalty in the National League play-off final at Wembley which took the Ravens into the EFL for the first time in their history.
Webster, 37, has made more than 150 appearances for Bromley and also lifted the EFL Trophy with Andy Woodman’s side.
Asked if the side are ready to play in League Two, Webster told the club’s in-house media channel: “Definitely. I think the whole club is – it starts from the chairman. The plans are all in place.”
Webster had been due to be a free agent at the start of July.
Webster told our paper in May that he was considering quitting the game when he left Carlisle United in 2020.
“I didn’t enjoy my time at my previous club. Football became a job – it wasn’t a thing I loved,” he said.
“I played with Dunny [assistant manager Alan Dunne] a few years previously. He asked me to come to Bromley and it reignited the light and burning of enjoying football.
“I have loved every minute. The gaffer has banged on about it all year – make history.
“I can only use Millwall and Yeovil as an example for when I was there. I was never the greatest player, but I created history at those clubs and I have always been welcomed back.
“It will hopefully be the same for all of us boys at Bromley now we have gone down in the history books. I’m sure we will be welcomed back in 20 or 30 years.”
Defender Callum Reynolds has also agreed a contract extension. He made 40 appearances for Bromley last season.
