The crash in Prebbleton happened about noon on Sunday.
Four people have been taken to hospital, one with serious injuries, after a crash southwest of Christchurch.
The two-vehicle crash at the junction of Longstaffs and Trices roads in Prebbleton was reported to police about 12pm on Sunday.
A St John spokeswoman said three people with moderate injuries and one with serious injuries were taken to Christchurch Hospital.
Police advised motorists to avoid the scene and use an alternative route until the crash site was cleared.
