Ghana beat Nigeria 7-4 to reach 2026 Beach Soccer AFCON

Ghana’s Black Sharks have qualified for the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal after defeating arch-rivals Nigeria 7-4 in the final round of qualifying.

The victory completes an impressive campaign for Ghana, who overcame one of Africa’s established beach soccer nations with a combination of attacking quality, determination and clinical finishing.

The tie carried significance beyond qualification, with meetings between Ghana and Nigeria having developed into a fierce West African rivalry. Both sides are known for their attacking approach and physical style, and the closely contested first leg left Ghana aware that only victory in the decisive match would secure their place at the tournament.

Ghana made a fast start and imposed themselves from the opening whistle. Their high pressing and quick passing put Nigeria under sustained pressure, allowing the Black Sharks to establish an early advantage.

Nigeria threatened to mount a comeback, but Ghana responded each time and maintained control of the match. The final score reflected the team’s attacking ambition, while also highlighting an improvement in defensive organisation – an area identified by the technical staff as a priority during preparations for the qualifiers.

Qualification for Senegal 2026 represents an important moment for Beach Soccer in Ghana. The Black Sharks last appeared at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2024 and have since focused on rebuilding the team.

That work has included investment in grassroots development, regional leagues and regular camping as Ghana sought to return to the continental competition.

The win against Nigeria therefore delivers more than a place in the tournament. It underlines Ghana’s readiness to compete against the leading teams in Africa after their period of rebuilding.

At the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana will have the opportunity to face the continent’s strongest sides, including defending champions Senegal and former champions Egypt and Morocco.

Qualification for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup will also be at stake in Senegal, adding further importance to the Black Sharks’ return to the African championship.

The result completes Ghana’s recovery from the disappointment of missing out on the previous stage and gives the team a place among Africa’s leading beach soccer nations once again.
