A 13-year-old girl has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old girl in NSW.
Emergency services were called to Euston Close, Edgeworth, about 10.20pm yesterday, following reports of a stabbing.
Police found a teenage girl with an injury to her torso.
She was treated by paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, but later died from her injuries.
She is yet to be formally identified, but a police statement released this morning said she is believed to be a 14-year-old girl.
A 13-year-old girl – who officers say was known to the victim – was arrested at the scene.
She is currently in police custody and is helping police with inquiries.
Officers established a crime scene, which will be forensically examined by specialist officers today.
A kitchen knife was seized from the crime scene and has been taken away for forensic examination.
Strike Force Aggnes has been established and an investigation is underway, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
