Tanzanian giants Young Africans felt robbed against Mamelodi Sundowns after they were denied a ‘goal’ in the Caf Champions League quarter-finals on Friday.
Drama ensued late in the game between Sundowns and Yanga after Aziz Ki’s powerful strike hit the underside of the crossbar and back into play.
And while the Tanzanians thought they had stolen victory, the legitimacy of the goal was checked via VAR.
The referee relied on his VAR colleagues to rule that the entire circumference of the ball had not crossed the goal line.
However, the majority of football fans across the African continent strongly believe that the ‘goal’ should have stood.
Had the referees ruled in favour of Yanga, it would have marked the end of Sundowns in this year’s Caf Champions League.
Sundowns went on to win the match 3-2 on penalties following a goalless draw after 90 minutes with hero Ronwen Williams saving two penalties.
