The famous little wizard Harry Potter will appear on a series of coins in the UK, including a 50 pence coin, reported AFP.
“The Royal Mint is launching a collection of enchanted coins to mark the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the first volume of the phenomenally successful wizarding and fantasy world created by author JK Rowling,” it said. in a released statement.
The series will include four coins featuring a portrait of the famous bespectacled wizard, as well as the Hogwarts Express train, Professor Albus Dumbledore and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The Royal Mint specifies that they opted for an optical effect that imitates the impact of “lightning” when rotated in front of the light. It is achieved using a state-of-the-art laser and not only gives the coins a “magical” character, but also provides an opportunity to secure and authenticate them.
Launched in 1997, the seven-volume literary series follows the adventures of young wizard Harry Potter at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and his battle with the dark wizard Lord Voldemort, who seeks immortality.
Sales of books in the series amount to hundreds of millions of dollars. The eight films based on her have grossed billions of dollars.
The collector coins unveiled by the Royal Mint today also include two coins featuring portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, who died last month. Two others have the official portrait of King Charles III, the press release also states.
