How Halle Berry is living a full life as she approaches her 60th birthday

Halle Berry will be 60 years old on Friday. In Chinese culture, the 60^th is a big deal, like back in the old old olden days, they didn’t celebrate birthdays until the 60^th birthday. As in… 25? Nobody cares. If you make it to 60, everybody cares, the whole village shows up. For Chinese people, 60 is a complete life cycle, and 61 is the beginning of a new life. So it’s a huge accomplishment, a big deal, to have lived a full life at 60. That’s how Halle seems to be approaching it, as she should – and I hope at some point, someone is serving her noodles, uncut, because that’s the symbol of longevity.

Halle just returned from a 60^th birthday holiday in Komo in Fiji a few days ago. She posted several times from the resort. She was papped again at the airport heading back out. Hilariously just as the photos were released by the agency, she was on Instagram sharing that she’d arrived wherever she is and ready for more beach time, with her man Van Hunt.

That shot of her in the knit halter… it could be now, it could be ten years ago, it could be 20 years ago. The halter with the deep plunge has always been Halle style, at every age. Hopefully we’ll see her in it again in another decade.

I didn’t follow Sydney Towle and only became aware of her when I saw headlines a few days ago about her passing. And now I’ve just learned about the appalling behaviour of the trolls who were so cruel to her after reading Kayleigh Donaldson’s latest post about the situation. This is the line we should all get behind: “I’d rather risk looking a fool in the name of empathy than cloister myself in bitter paranoia in fear of an already cruel world”. (Pajiba)
