President Uhuru Kenyatta has responded to Deputy President William Ruto’s sensational claim that the Head of State was plotting to assassinate his political rivals ahead of the August 9 poll.
Speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Sunday, July 31, Uhuru stated that he was not interested in carrying out a vendetta in his final days as President.
The Head of State read malice in the recent remarks by Ruto and his associates who claimed that their lives were in danger over political differences.
Uhuru added that he had persevered insults over the past three years and that it was pointless to act against his rivals when leaving office with limited powers.

“You have insulted me for close three years, has anyone touched you? I was in office for those three years and did I not have the capability? Now that I want to hand over the government and I have limited powers, do you think I have time to look for you?
“Everyone, including myself, has the right to campaign for whoever they want. There is no reason for insults and If I answer you because you have lied. There is no reason to tell people I want to kill you,” he stated.
Uhuru further challenged Kenyans to exercise peace during the ongoing campaign period to ensure harmonious living post-August 9 General Election.
“I am doing my work and you should go and campaign on your own. If Kenyans want you in office they will vote for you, if they don’t the we will go home together,” he added.
On Friday, July 29, the DP claimed that there is a plot being orchestrated to harm him, his family and his allies.
In his speech, Ruto asked Uhuru not to drag his kids into their wrangles claiming that he had supported the Head of State in both 2013 and 2017.
“Stop talking about me and talk about your candidate. Be gentleman. Have some gratitude. We are the ones who helped you. When you needed people, we stood by you till the last minute. Do not harm my children.
“I want to ask the President not to be the source of threats in Kenya. Stop threatening us. Your work is to ensure that all Kenyans are safe. Stop telling us that we will know that you are President. We are not people who can be threatened. We are the ones who elected you,” the DP stated.
A day later, DP Ruto’s running mate Rigathi Gachagua claimed that state mercenaries were targeting the DP and him as campaigns period enters homestretch.
