Japanese documentary filmmaker handed prison sentence in Myanmar

Yangon, Myanmar – A Japanese documentary filmmaker detained in Yangon, Myanmar, in July was sentenced on Wednesday to multiple years in prison for sedition and violating a law on electronic communications, a source familiar with his case said.

While a junta-controlled court gave Toru Kubota three years for sedition and seven years for electronic communications-related violations, it was not immediately clear if he would have to serve 10 years.
