Jason Kidd looks forward to Anthony Davis taking over next season as the Dallas Mavericks run it back with him at the helm.
The Dallas Mavericks had perhaps the most polarizing year in their franchise’s history. In a 12 month period, the Mavericks went to the NBA Finals, traded Luka Doncic, and secured the first overall pick.
Despite the 1.8% odds, the Mavericks landed the first overall pick, which gives them the chance to draft Cooper Flagg and build around him in the years to come.
In all of this drama, the presence of Anthony Davis, who came on board as part of the Doncic trade, has kind of gone unnoticed.
Well, Jason Kidd has been keeping a close eye on Anthony Davis, and he is highly optimistic about the former NBA champion making an impact next season.

Jason Kidd on Anthony Davis finding success next season
Jason Kidd was a guest on the DLLS MVS podcast. When talking about the next season, and how the Mavericks will cope without Kyrie Irving, Kidd looked to his bigs.
He pointed to Anthony Davis and PJ Washington as players who will provide them with the size and spacing to dominate on the offensive end, with Davis in particular proving to be a problem for opposing defenders.
“I think, causing a problem when you can get double-teamed, and that’s what we believe. AD is one that will cause a problem.”
“We believe, like PJ [Washington] is going to get better, being able to knock down the three, being able to play faster, as much as we’re going to be bigger, we played faster, taking advantage of that.”

Kidd also anticipates Thompson improvement
Kidd also spoke about Klay Thompson, whom he believes will bring his veteran experience and only improve on the performance he put on this season.
“I think when you look at Klay again, we didn’t bring him up. I thought he had an incredible season, not just on the floor, but in the locker room.
“Being a vet, because there was so much speculation about him wanting not to be here. But he was nothing but a true pro.
“When you talk about creating shots, you can look at being different, because we are bigger, and we’ll be able to create those double teams.
“Now, we just have to be consistent on being able to knock down wide-open shots just like anybody else in this league.”
Thompson played well, but wasn’t consistent enough when stringing together strong performances. Hopefully, the Mavericks can get him to play at a high level regularly next season.
