Kenyan Man Working in UK Donates KSh 700k to His Village Affected by Drought

• It was all smiles for over 161 elderly persons in Nguni ward of Mwingi Central, Kitui County after a wellwisher donated foodstuffs to them
• Elias Kakundi, who lives and works in the UK, made the donations as a way to supplement government efforts to feed the most vulnerable in society
• Kakundi, through Ambrose Safari, who is working as a community social worker, sent KSh 700,000 to be used for food purchase

A Kenyan man working and living in the United Kingdom (UK) has come to the rescue of his community in Nguni ward, Mwingi Central, Kitui County.

Generous man donates KSh 700k

Elias Kakundi, who works in the UK as a hotelier, donated KSh 700,000 through his Mwangaza initiative to help over 160 vulnerable families affected by severe drought.

The generous man was assisted by Ambrose Safari, a Community Social worker, in the initiative to ensure the vulnerable and the affected within the area benefit from the program.

“The initiative is funded by Elias Kakundi and supported by a few friends from the area,” Safari was quoted by Kenya News Agency.

“Kakundi has already sent Ksh700,000 that will ensure the affected population benefit from the initiative,” Safari added.

He further stated that they had distributed foodstuffs such as maize flour, wheat flour, cooking oil and salt to the elderly, extending the distribution to other areas with vulnerable households.

Wellwishers to support initiative

According to Safari, other wellwishers have promised to support the initiative.

Last month, the government, through a school feeding programme, distributed food to all schools in Mwingi.

This region has not received enough rain for the last three seasons, and hence the area is badly affected.

Safari requested both government and other wellwishers to work together to ensure every vulnerable household puts food on the table.

Political leaders from Mwingi have recently urged the government to urgently distribute food to Mwingi residents stating that many households have been affected by the ongoing drought.

Mwangaza Initiative distributed Maize flour, wheat flour, cooking oil and salt.

William Ruto flags off 50 trucks

President William Ruto initially flagged off relief food to families in counties that have been hardly hit by drought.

TUKO.co.ke reported the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) said food insecurity in Kenya is rapidly increasing, placing more than 20 million Kenyans at risk.

Ruto said that more than 3 million Kenyans are severely affected by drought, including a huge herd of livestock in arid and semi-arid areas.

He said that to avoid the suffering of citizens in the areas, delivery of water will be made by water bowsers to ensure livestock can access food and water.
