Live updates: West Indies vs Australia, first Test, day two at Kensington Oval

Australia turns to its fifth bowling option.

Not much happening there at the moment for the tourists.

Webster’s first two are wide and left alone by Chase.

And the third is even wider and moving away through the air, and Chase is chasing it but not making contact. The umpire calls it a front foot no ball.

Webster is finding his line and Chase is leaving a couple that are closer to the stumps.

A wayward one from Starc is too short and wide and is left alone by Chase.

This one is fuller and Chase is driving upishly. However, the ball is well and truly on the carpet before it reaches the fielder at cover point. No run.

Starc misses his line and it’s down the leg-side. Chase is trying to glance it but doesn’t get anything on it. A leg side strangulation looks about Australia’s best chance of a wicket at the moment, actually.

Four! Another one into the body is worked away behind square. It’s in the air and it looks like one of the two men in close on the legside might be in play…but they’re not. It flies past both of them and to the fence and that’s the 50 partnership for these two.

Starc is just back of a length and Chase is back and defending.

Crunched! But straight to mid-wicket and it’s no run. Starc pitched that one up a bit and you fancy he was searching for that signature miracle ball.

Starc serves up a bit of a half-volley that Chase is pushing into a gap through cover point. It’s in the air and not quite timed but the batters come back for a couple.

Smashed! Shai Hope frees the arms, plants the front leg and just thunders Lyon back over his head. Four runs.

Woah! Now that’s even better. A single had brought Roston Chase on strike and he steps forward and plays a lovely, looping, lofted off drive over the fence. That’s six.

Lyon says enough is enough and he moves around the wicket and darts one in quicker.

Chase is back and working it through midwicket for a single to end the over.

This one is a bit straighter and Chase is able to work it past Sam Konstas at short leg. The batters come back for a couple.

A shorter one is quite dramatically left alone by Chase, who swivels his whole body and brings his bat down like a lightsabre inside the line.

Chase is well behind one to finish the over.

Loopy from Lyon to begin. Chase is back and defending and then pushing the next one back past Lyon for a single.

Interesting field here – a slip and two short legs.

Spin! That one came in a bit from Lyon, pitching well outside off stump and turning enough to hit Hope outside the leg stump.

Shai Hope is an interesting cricketer. He’s had a bit of a stop-start test career, and when he has played, he hasn’t exactly set the world alite. An average of just over 25 from 38 matches does not reflect his quality. His ODI stats are outstanding. He averages just under 50 from 139 matches.

So all that’s to say, he has the ability to go big here today.

Beauty from Cummins! He bangs one in slightly fuller and Hope is presenting his bat but missing it completely as the ball moves away from him off the seam.

Chance! Thick edge from Chase, who is flashing at a wide one outside off-stump. It flies past Khawaja at first slip who was full stretch but can’t get a hand on it. The ball races to the boundary.

He will love the bounce available on this deck – and the turn that should be on offer too. Will be very interesting to see how it plays for him.

Lyon can be a conservative starter with his line, so expect no fireworks in the first couple of balls.

Chase is given a bouncer outside off and he leaves it alone, just about, the bat perilously wafting outside off and close to the ball as it flew by.

This has been a very good start for the West Indies to day two – only King’s momentary lapse a blemish on the hosts’ day.

BEATEN! That’s a ripper of a ball to finish the over – so tight to the off stump that Chase simply had to prod at it. Great stuff.

On day one the host broadcaster was explaining that you’d always bat first in Barbados and, given the patchy nature of the grass on the strip, it was expected to break up around day four or five.

So it was interesting to see that batting was so hard for the Aussies on day one.

Zinc spread liberally across his nose and cheeks, hair tousled, Starc stands at the end of his run up.

He bowls outside off and someone, presumably Konstas given Marnus is back on the bench, lets out an exaggerated howl.

FOUR! Not sure how that ended up down at third man, but Hope attempted a drive, slashed at it late, the ball hit the bottom of the bat and squirted past the second slip and away for a boundary.

Outside off, Hope thought about a wild slash but decided against it.

I wonder when the GOAT will be called upon… He’s on the boundary signing autographs at the moment as Hope defends the last ball of the over.

Glorious shot by Chase this time! That’s a square drive out to the cover point boundary that has the locals purring in joy. Marnus Labuschagne is out there doing the fielding and he takes a decent divot out of the outfield as he slides. Three runs.

There are a huge number of kids in the crowd today, which is really nice to see – they all look like they are enjoying themselves a lot too.

I was wondering when we’d see Mitch Starc – he was brilliant yesterday.

And here he is, coming around the wicket.

Hope clips forward of the short leg fielder and takes a single to midwicket.

Two slips, two gullies, Chase is whacked on the thigh and limps down for a trio of runs – Josh Hazlewood does brilliantly at fine leg to stop a boundary and save a run.

Solid defence there from Hope, as Starc just starts to nudge his pace up towards 140kmh, he’s not there yet but getting there.

FOUR! What a shot from Shai Hope! The local lad crushed that drive through the covers for a boundary. Beautiful shot, wonderful timing. No need to run he hit that so well.

FOUR! That’s just as good! If not better! Just a push straight back past Starc, a genuine straight drive and textbook perfect.

He arrows one in at Hope’s stumps and he defends solidly.

Now a good little push into the off side gets Shai Hope off the mark with a single.

A tight leave by Chase now and that’s over.

The West Indian fan they just showed on the TV footage does not share that opinion.

Brandon King has left well so far today, but that ball was not the right one to shoulder arms to.

Hazlewood gets the ball to swing in a bit, it deviates off the pitch a little bit more, and it clips the top of off stump.

A sad end to what had been a promising first innings for the West Indies.
