Oyo Governor Blames Economic Hardship on Inadequate Planning by Federal Government
By Christopher Ameh, Bauchi
The Governor of Oyo State and presidential hopeful representing the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has attributed the severe economic challenges currently affecting millions of Nigerians to insufficient planning by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
During a live interview broadcasted on Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) on Friday, Makinde argued that crucial economic policies implemented by the Federal Government were executed lacking the necessary frameworks to mitigate their negative impacts on citizens, exacerbating existing hardships.
Makinde stated that the immediate fallout from the government’s recent economic initiatives stems from making substantial decisions without adequate foresight or effective strategies for execution.
“For economic reforms to be effective, there must be a solid foundation in planning and implementation frameworks,” he emphasized, noting the importance of safeguarding ordinary citizens from the adverse consequences of government policies.
The Oyo State Governor underscored that addressing Nigeria’s pressing economic issues would necessitate fundamental structural reforms coupled with strong political resolve.
Furthermore, he introduced the APM’s Reset Nigeria Agenda, a strategic approach aimed at tackling the nation’s challenges through a comprehensive policy framework as delineated in the party’s manifesto.
According to Makinde, this agenda is centered on reforming essential sectors of the economy, advancing sustainable development, and reinforcing a federal system that acknowledges and respects Nigeria’s diverse groups.
