The Dallas Mavericks last road game at the Golden State Warriors was an intense affair where the home team came out on top.
Last night Klay Thompson was able to record his first win on Warriors court as a Dallas Mavericks player, winning a high-scoring game 143-133.
Thompson scored 29 points, his best game yet since joining the Mavericks in the off-season, going 7-11 from three-point range.
Luka Doncic led the team with 45 points, also his best output in 2024-25 so far, bettering the 40 he put up against the Suns at the start of the season.
Jason Kidd praises Klay Thompson
Klay Thompson is held in great affection by Golden State Warriors fans and teammates. Stephen Curry and Draymond Green in particular talked about him in high regard ahead of the Mavs’ first visit last month.
Yet this was singled out by Mavs coach Jason Kidd as an area where he believes not many people know about, what a great teammate Thompson is – even after achieving so much in his career.
Speaking at a post-game press conference, Kidd said: “It takes time, there’s a rhythm to it, and you can see that his feet are settled in and he feels confident.
“And the one thing I think people don’t really know about Klay is that he is a great teammate.
“Even when he’s not in the game, he’s cheering for his guys, and I think that’s just incredible for someone who’s won championships.
“To understand that sometimes when you’re not playing because of the depth of our team, he’s still cheering and still wants to win.”
Thompson was bitterly disappointed to lose the previous game at the Warriors, and this time he walked away with the W, taking his team to an impressive 17-9 for the season, with his former side falling to 14-11.
Luka Doncic happy to win for Klay
Star man Luka Doncic spoke about Klay Thompson’s reaction following the victory, noting how happy he was to win.
Doncic commented: “He was very high at the end, you know, coming to locker room.
“It’s amazing. You feel happy for the guy, obviously we wanted to win the first time here. We couldn’t, but we got the win now.”
It has been clear from the Mavs and Warriors’ match-ups just how competitive they are. Thompson and Curry are both desperate to win, giving the games a real edge.
It’s this spirit that made the Warriors so dominant at their peak, and both Thompson and Curry are determined to maximize the late stages of their careers and win one more ring.
