Meta owned Instagram has a huge user base with some of the biggest users amassing millions of users. Part of the problem though, is it’s broadcast based and you can’t really tell a story. With the release of Instagram Threads, Meta is looking to engage a new user base and take advantage of the changing Twitter ecosystem.
While there are still plenty of active and happy users on the Twitter platform, there are a lot of users searching for other options. Threads is offering just that with an already familiar client base, shared login ability to follow all the same accounts as part of the sign up process.
Some of the advantages of the Threads app are noted to be:
- Threads is a new app, built by the Instagram team, for sharing text updates and joining public conversations.
- Posts can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.
- We’re working on Threads soon being compatible with the open, interoperable social networks that we believe can shape the future of the internet.
It opens the possibility for information sharing and conversation for causal users and better engagement for creators. If for no other reason than curiosity, I’ve jumped over to Threads for a closer look. The immediate impression is it’s a very similar interface to Twitter with a lot of similar features like filtering words, subjects or users. The Twitter resemblance even includes a section for notifications from verified users.
It will certainly be interesting to see the results of Threads appearance in the social media market across the next couple of months.
How much interest do you have in Threads? A wide berth, a passing glance or will you abandon Twitter and invest in the platform?
