Formula 1 fans including Piers Morgan and Vernon Kay are in hysterics after the grid walk descended into chaos at today’s Miami Grand Prix for one pundit. As is customary before each of the 22 races spread out across the year, celebs and drivers gather at the starting line, while journalists attempt to interview them.
Former racer turned Sky Sports commentator Martin Brundle was among the crowds, but appeared out of his depth – making no secret of the fact that he didn’t really know who anyone was. He then proceeded to unapologetically go around from person to person, asking them who they are to their face.
Things went from bad to worse for the ex Formula 1 racer, who interviewed basketball star Paolo Banchero thinking it was NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes. A-listers of the sporting world gathered at the grid, where Brundle appeared slightly out of his depth.

It was obvious to viewers that someone was whispering in Brundle’s ear piece when he started speaking to the ‘wrong guy’, as he all of a sudden piped up saying: “It’s not Patrick. That’s why he ignored me in the beginning.” The Sky Sports presenter then turned to the man he just interviewed and asked what his name was, before finding out it was Banchero.
It wasn’t all bad news, though, as he managed to get a few words from tennis star Venus Williams, as well as DJ Khaled and NBA icon Dwyane Wade. Michelle Obama even made a special appearance at the race track earlier this weekend. His hiccup did not go unnoticed, with Formula 1 fans flocking to Twitter after being left in stitches by Brundle’s actions. Two of those fans were Piers Morgan and Vernon Kay.
The former Good Morning Britain host joked: “Martin Brundle’s F1 grid walk in Miami, where he doesn’t know who anyone is, is incredibly awkward and hysterically funny.” Meanwhile TV presenter Vernon Kay chimed in: “Loving Martin Brundle on the grid at F1 Miami….absolutely no f**** given. ‘Who are you sir….So you’re not Patrick Mahomes?’ Brilliant.”
