It’s called an emotional eating disorder
Nutritionist Olesya Obanina explained the reasons for the desire to eat at night and the lack of hunger in the morning. About why people often forcefully eat breakfast, and in the evening they cannot tear themselves away from the refrigerator, the doctor told the publication “Doctor Peter”.
According to the expert, a common cause of this condition is mental illness – emotional eating disorder. “In this situation, food for a person is a ‘comforter, medicine’ for any emotional discomfort. The condition is very common in obese people,” the nutritionist said.
The eating disorder is accompanied by three signs: morning anorexia (lack of appetite during the first half of the day), nocturnal bulimia – unbridled desire for food in the evening and closer to night, sleep disturbance, noted Olesya Obanina.
Here is what Olesya Obanina advises to get out of this vicious circle. “Try changing your sleep schedule and try going to bed before 11pm, getting 7-8 hours of sleep.”
The expert drew attention to the fact that in order to form a proper diet, a diary should be kept in which to record what and when a person ate. Such a tactic, according to her, will allow to establish the production of the natural hormone melatonin and improve the quality of sleep, which also affects the work of the food center. In addition, you should make dinner less caloric so that you wake up with a slight feeling of hunger.
“Of course, this is best achieved by working with a specialist, as changing a food stereotype is hard work. But some healthy eating habits people can form on their own, says the nutritionist.
Among them are slow eating, reducing portions of high-calorie foods, evening walks and refusing to read the news and social networks before going to bed.
“Include sports, yoga, breathing exercises in your daily life. This will reduce the degree of anxiety and therefore stabilize the production of hormones in the body – the hunger centers and the sieve will start to work properly,” advises the doctor.
