Minnesota Frost lose key player due to suspension for Game 2

The Minnesota Frost are going to be down a key piece of its roster later on Friday when its best-of-five semifinal with the Toronto Sceptres continues.

Britta Curl-Salemme, a rookie forward with Minnesota and one of its two goal scorers in a Game 1 loss, has been suspended by the league for one game for a high hit on Toronto defender Renata Fast that earned her a five-minute major and an ejection when it initially occurred.

It’s the third suspension of the year for Curl-Salemme, the other two following minor penalties in a game that were reviewed by the league and then upgraded to ban-worthy infractions. She was also suspended for a high hit on Toronto defender Megan Carter earlier this season.

It makes her the reigning ‘bad girl’ of the league with her third suspension a new highwater for the league.

Curl-Salemme finished her rookie season sixth in scoring among Frost skaters with nine goals and six assists for 15 points. Her 24 minutes in penalties in 28 games were second on the team behind rookie teammate Brook McQuigge, who had 25 and played one more game.

Her 15 points among rookies also tied with McQuigge for third in the PWHL this season among first-year players trailing only New York’s Sarah Fillier and Montreal’s Jennifer Gardiner.
