“My President”: Overwhelmed Kisumu DG Sheds Tears Uncontrollably While Celebrating Raila Odinga on Heroes’ Day

• Ochieng Owili sang praises to ODM leader Raila Odinga whom he lauded for the sacrifices he has made in the quest for Kenya’s democracy
• Owili, who is deputy to Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, failed to hold back his tears as he paid tribute to the former premier
• He is currently holding the forte for Nyong’o, who has been in the Netherlands for a couple of days on a working trip

Kisumu county deputy governor Ochieng Owili was overcome by emotions while paying tribute to longstanding opposition leader Raila Odinga on Mashujaa Day.

Owili, who is holding the forte for Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, who is on a working trip in the Netherlands, led the celebrations in Kisumu.

In his speech, the deputy governor recognised Raila among the outstanding leaders Kenya will ever have.

He lauded the former prime minister for the sacrifices he had made for the sake of the country’s common good.

He however got teary in the course of his speech as the audience keenly followed.

“We celebrate another decorated Shujaa, One of the best presidents we will ever have. The former prime minister Raila Amolo Odinga. You all know his painful story in the struggle and fight for democracy in this country,” said Owili amid sobs.

He called on the Luo Nyanza natives to continue rallying behind Raila in the face of rebellion from some quarters that have vowed to partner with President William Ruto’s administration.

Owili joined other Kenyans who dedicated the day to the ODM leader.

A revered champion for democracy, Raila has long been at the centre of the fight for social justice in the country.

Mashujaa Day, a holiday coined from the initial Kenyatta Day, was meant to celebrate all heroes of the past and present.

As Ruto led the nation in marking the day, Kenyans on social media took time to celebrate the ODM leader.

In the meantime, Nyong’o is in the Kingdom of the Netherlands to negotiate with Dutch Water Operators for more funding of water utilities in Kisumu county.

Accompanying him on the trip is his Nakuru counterpart, Susan Kihika.

Dutch Water Operators currently finance water utilities in Kisumu and Nakuru to the tune of over KSh 450 million.
