News Americas, ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Thurs. Nov. 5, 2026: In a remarkable political triumph, Grenada’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), under the leadership of Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, has achieved a stunning victory in the 2026 elections, capturing 14 out of 15 parliamentary seats. This win grants the NDC a second consecutive term in office, leaving the opposition New National Party (NNP) with only one seat, represented by Adrian Joseph in St. George North West.
From Nine Seats To 14
This outcome signifies a significant leap for Mitchell’s political faction, which first ascended to power in June 2022 by defeating the NNP, which was then led by Keith Mitchell. The NDC initially won nine seats in that election, effectively ending a nine-year NNP administration. The results from November 5 reflect a notable increase in the NDC’s parliamentary presence, growing from nine to 14 seats.
Breaking A One-Term Pattern
This decisive victory breaks a longstanding historical trend for the NDC, which had previously faced defeats after one term in power. The party also held office in 1990 and 2008 but lost the subsequent elections. Under Prime Minister Mitchell’s leadership, the NDC has now secured a back-to-back win, reinforcing its position significantly.
The only seat claimed by the New National Party was won by Dr. Adrian Joseph of St. George North West. The NDC further established its dominance by receiving 37,369 votes, accounting for 61% of the valid ballots cast, compared to the NNP’s 22,567 votes or 36.84%. The Democratic People’s Movement ranked third with 1,189 votes (1.94%). This results in a substantial popular vote margin of 14,802 in favor of the NDC.
Turnout for the election stood at an impressive 63.3%, with a total of 61,460 ballots cast from an electorate of 97,031 registered voters. Of these, 61,264 votes were valid, while 196 were rejected along with 145 spoiled ballots. Other participating parties collectively garnered only 139 votes.
What’s Next
With this renewed mandate, Prime Minister Mitchell is now positioned to advance his administration’s agenda focusing on economic growth, infrastructure improvements, healthcare enhancements, educational advancements, and job creation. The NNP, having dominated Grenadian politics for a significant portion of the last thirty years, faces a challenging path ahead with its reduced representation in the House.
