The OnePlus 16 was unveiled in China on Monday, and it went on sale there this morning at 10 AM local time. Just an hour later, OnePlus China president Li Jie took to Weibo to announce that more than 70,000 units had already been sold.
According to the exec, that puts the OnePlus 16 in first place among this year’s Android flagships based on comparable launch-period sales, and he calls the result an increase that’s rare in the industry. Unfortunately, the company hasn’t shared how many units its predecessor sold in the same timeframe, so we can’t put that into perspective.
In case you need a refresher, the OnePlus 16 comes with a 6.78-inch 1272×2772 LTPO AMOLED screen with a 165Hz refresh rate (185Hz in supported games), the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, a 200MP main camera with OIS, a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom, a 50MP ultrawide with autofocus, a 50MP selfie camera, a 9,000 mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K ratings, and ColorOS 17 based on Android 17. Pricing starts at CNY 5,999 (about $896).
Of course, if you’re reading this in Europe or North America, you might be a bit sad right now. OnePlus officially exited both regions back in July, so the OnePlus 16 won’t be making its way there. That’s a shame, especially considering this sales start shows the brand still has plenty of fans, at least at home.
