Squirrels busily searching for food to overwinter are seen in a park in Obihiro, Hokkaido.
The squirrels fed on the plentiful supply of walnuts and acorns found in the park, while burying some of the food in the ground. According to Obihiro Zoo, since Hokkaido squirrels do not hibernate, they habitually bury nuts in the ground to use as a winter food source. In winter, their fur turns brownish-gray and the hair on their ears grows 4 to 5 centimeters.
