Senators voting for the census to be held this year

The Liberian Senate has made a U-turn on the timelines for conducting the national housing and population census of Liberia.
Before the legislature went for legislative break, lawmakers had voted to postpone the National Census conduct for March 2023.
But today, members of the Liberian Senate unanimously voted to adjust the National Census to October 24 and to end November 7, 2022.
The pleanry of the Liberian Senate passed a joint Resolution to effect the adjustment from March to this year 2022.
The senate latest decision was triggered by intense meetings held with Senate’s Chairman on Modernization, Conmany Wesseh.
The senator Wesseh Conmany also said the decision tailored on discussion held with stakeholders on the importance of the census in Liberia.
“From our in-house discussions, we should conduct the census in October 24, and November 7,2022,” Senator Conmany said.
Prior to the Senate’s decision, the Senate previously summoned the management of Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information (LISGIS) in which its Director General, Mr. Francis Wreh, assured the public that all was set to commence the Census.
Interms of working materials such as tablets, Mr. Wreh, indicated that there was a pressing need to conduct the census speedily owing to the fact that Liberia borrowed tablets to b used from Ghana.

Senate Rejects Weah RIA Nominee
Almost all members of the Liberian Senate yesterday voted to reject th confirmation of the Darlington karnley, Managing Director of the Roberts International Airport.
In a report submitted to the pleanry by Commitee on Transport headed by Senator Daniel Naathn, declined to confirm Darlington Karnley as Managing Director.
The Senate’s decision was contained in a report submitted by the Senate Committee on Transport headed by Gbarpolu County Senator, Daniel Naathn and Chairman of the opposition, Alternative National Congress (ANC) of Alexander B. Cummings.
As part of the report, committee among other things, cited incompetence and as such, declined on confirmation.
” After thorough investigation and scrutiny of the nominee regarding his qualifications and experienced, the committee found out that the nominee did not demonstrate the requisite qualities to perform the task for which he has been designated,” the Committee recommended.
In their of rejection, “the Committee is not convinced With the nominee’s credentials and other information”.
