Stellenbosch lead Kaizer Chiefs for top R6 million defensive target!

Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC are both believed to be interested in Rushwin Dortley of relegated Cape Town Spurs.

With Spurs failing to avoid the drop, some topflight sides are already eyeing their players, including Chiefs and Stellenbosch. 

Chiefs were interested in Dortley

Last season, it was believed that Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns were going toe-to-toe in an effort to sign Dortley. In the end, the players decided to stay put at the club. But perhaps, what discouraged the two giants from bidding for the left-sided defender, was that he was of interest abroad. He spent some time on trials at Danish topflight side Nordsjælland. The move abroad did  not seem to materialise, however, with the player returning home. 

Now after a full season of topflight football, he may be ready to move from Spurs in order to stay. This publication reported earlier in the month that Chiefs could revise their interest in the star for a cut price. An updated report stated that his club wanted at least R6 million for his services. Now, according to Soccer-Laduma, it is, in fact, Stellenbosch that are serious about keeping him in the league.

“As reported by the Siya crew, Rushwin Dortley is being courted by a number of clubs in the DStv Premiership. Stellenbosch FC now emerging as the frontrunners to land his signature. Whilst in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, he underwent a trial period with Danish giants Nordsjælland, while Kaizer Chiefs were keen on his services locally. Now, the latest news reaching the Siya crew’s desk is that next season’s CAF Confederation Cup participants Stellenbosch are leading the race for his services. The Winelands outVt are believed to have expressed their interest formally, though it remains to be seen if they can match Spurs’ evaluation of the player, which according to sources is quite hefty.” Wrote the publication. 

With the latest reports distancing Chiefs, as well as this one saying Stellenbosch are front-runners, Dortley seems likely to stay in the Western Cape.
