Five finalists for The Radio Bureau’s Outstanding Radio Creative Awards (ORCA) student competition have been announced.
This year the students were given a live brief to create an audio campaign for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand that encouraged donations or drove youth audiences to engage with Covid-19 wellness tips.
The entries were judged by Rory McKechnie, Freddie Coltart and Matt Williams from DDB, Hadleigh Sinclair of Colenso BBDO and Hayley Marks from FCB.
From AUT they selected ‘Never Have I Ever’ by Hannah Nguyen and Louis O’Brien, ‘News Update’ by Amie Kaufman and Holly Grant and ‘Let’s FART together’ by Maclean Winiata and Tegan Cooke. From Media Design School they chose ‘All You Saw’ by Harry Pfiszter and Letitia Mackenzie and ‘Main Character Energy’ by Kevin Ng.
Renee Fox, Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand Communications and Marketing Specialist, says the organisation was impressed with the calibre of responses to the brief.
“It was an honour to have so many talented people working on and thinking about some of the mahi we do here at the Mental Health Foundation. Narrowing down the finalists was no easy feat, all responses were creative; some entertaining, others thought-provoking, and all had such thought and consideration put into them. Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou – for all the hard yards, and for allowing us to be part of your student journey!”
The winning campaign will air across commercial radio stations later in the year.
ORCA and Student ORCA winners will be announced on Thursday August 25th.
