Sue Gray reveals ‘gathering’ in Boris Johnson and wife Carrie’s Downing Street flat being investigated by police

A “gathering” in Boris and Carrie Johnson’s Downing Street flat is being investigated by police, Sue Gray has revealed.

The news comes as the senior civil servant’s much-awaited report into lockdown parties in Downing Street and Whitehall being published this afternoon.

The Political Editor of the Mirror took to Twitter within minutes of the report being published, to confirm the police investigation of the so-called “gathering” at the Prime Minister and his wife’s flat.

Pippa Crerar wrote: “Significant – Sue Gray reveals that a “gathering” in the PM and Carrie’s Downing Street flat on November 13 2020 is now being investigated by the police.”

She added in a follow-up tweet: “We reported this event in November last year – but were told by No 10 it was ‘categorically untrue’.

“I was told that guests in flat were ‘all getting totally plastered’ on evening Cummings left No 10.

“Subsequent reports suggest Abba’s ‘Winner Takes It All’ was blasting out.”

Recalling the report last year, others replied to the Tweet with videos of Boris Johnson denying allegations of a party in Downing Street during Prime Ministers’ Questions in the House of Commons in December 2021.

Sue Gray’s report into lockdown parties in Downing Street and Whitehall was finally published today, revealing that 12 events are being investigated by police.

The nine page document – watered down at the request of the Met – concluded that a “number of gatherings should not have been allowed to take place” and that some behaviour was “difficult to justify”.

The civil servant also highlighted “inappropriate” use of the Downing Street garden without authorisation or oversight and that there had been “excessive” consumption of alcohol which was “not appropriate in a professional workplace at any time”.

Though watered down the report is still a damning indictment of behaviour at the heart of Government when the country was under strict coronavirus restrictions.

Boris Johnson is due to address Parliament at 3.30pm.

Clear examples do more than decorate an explanation: they show how an idea behaves under recognizable conditions. In education and software documentation alike, strong illustrations begin with a defined goal, then reveal the steps, assumptions, and result without unnecessary detail. A practical test example should state the input, expected output, and boundary condition, because these elements show whether a rule works beyond the simplest case. Including a contrasting case also helps readers distinguish a valid application from a tempting but incorrect one, while concise notes explain why the outcomes differ. When examples are updated with current data and checked against the underlying rule, they remain useful across classrooms, product guides, and professional training.
