An East London hospital had a day of remarkable coincidences on the magical date of 22/2/22 – after the maternity department at Queen’s Hospital dealt with exactly 22 births. One new mother said 22 was her new lucky number after her baby girl was born on that day. The date caused a surprise storm on social media, as the date was a perfectly symmetrical palindrome – meaning it can be read exactly the same forwards and backwards.
Babies born on Tuesday, February 22 earned the nickname of being “Twosday” kids. With 22 new kids born at the hospital in Romford with a 22/2/22 birthday, one baby almost had an even more bizarre birth. Maternity ward staff thought baby Aurora could be born in the 22nd hour when her mother went into labour at the hospital.
They thought she could end up with a birthday of 22:22 on 22/2/22. In the end, Aurora just missed out on the unique birth time and was born three minutes earlier at 22:19. Imogen Peters, Aurora’s mother, said she and her partner were thrilled to welcome their new daughter.
Imogen said: “22 is definitely our lucky number now! She was due on February 21 and I was brought in on February 19 to be induced and ended up having a C-section. As I’d been in for a few days, the significance of the date passed me by until afterwards.

“All my family and even the midwives were all pointing it out to me, though, how special her birthday would be. She’s our first baby so it is very special. I thought it was weird when I heard 22 babies were born on that day too!”
Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Trust runs runs two East London hospitals – Queen’s Hospital in Romford and King’s Hospital in Goodmayes.
Four babies born in America on Feburary 22 claimed a 2.22am or 2.22pm timed birth. One was born in Room 2 too.
