As the President who places premium on Human Capital Development than all other Presidents before him continues to embarrass the people of Sierra Leone with tangible and intangible developments, his Government has just completed the construction of the first ever Foreign Service Academy not only in Sierra Leone, but West Africa as a whole. This came into being as a result of his Cabinet decision to establish the Sierra Leone Foreign Service Academy and the proposal for the construction of the Sierra Leone Foreign Service Academy with China in early 2020. The Agreement was however ratified by Members of Parliament on Tuesday, 17th March, 2020.
The Foreign Service Academy is part of President Bio’s commitment in training Sierra Leonean career diplomats, which the Foreign Service Academy will seek to fulfill. The establishment of this Academy is one of the key deliverables of the medium term national development plan of this Government. The Foreign Service School will be divorced from the pedestrian Public/Civil Service, as it requires special training to perform special function. This Academy is also going to ensure that there is a clear path for a Career Diplomat who will be assured upon completion, their appointment will be permanent rather than to be removed with the introduction of every new Government, which will encourage more people to go for the training.
In less than a week, His Excellency the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio will Commission the first ever Foreign Service Academy in the Republic of Sierra Leone on the 5th January, 2023.
