The two-word text that ended Britney and Justin’s relationship

Britney Spears, 41, has opened up about her long-running conservatorship and past relationship with Justin Timberlake ahead of the release of her highly-anticipated memoir, The Woman in Me.

Speaking to People, the Drive Me Crazy singer dropped a number of bombshells from her time during the 13-year conservatorship that officially ended in 2021.

Her new memoir is set to drop on October 24.

Here’s everything you need to know, including excerpts from the tell-all.

She fell pregnant with Justin Timberlake

Spears says falling pregnant during her relationship with the ’90s boybander “was a surprise”.

“I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” she wrote.

However, she alleges Justin was “so sure that he didn’t want to be a father”, claiming he believed they were “way too young”. And ultimately, she claims they went on to have an abortion.

The singer calls the experience one of the “most agonising things I have ever experienced in my life”.

In the lead-up to the memoir being released, Page Six has shed light on exactly how the celebrity couple came to an end.

Music video director Chris Applebaum, who directed Spears for her music video for Overprotected: The Darkchild Remix in 2002, was there when she received the two-word text sent by Timberlake that ended their relationship.

Spears, then 20, was in the midst of “powering through” the rigorous two-day shoot when Applebaum noticed she was missing for 20-40 minutes.

He eventually found her in her trailer, sitting cross-legged on the ground with her makeup smudged with tears. She held up her phone to Applebaum and said, “I can’t believe it. Look it. This happened.”

On the screen was a text from Timberlake that read, “It’s over!!!”

Applebaum says that the boyband member had been trying to reach her throughout the shoot because he was “pissed” about rumours that she cheated on him with Australian choreographer Wade Robson. Spears admitted that this was true in her memoir.

She was being comforted by longtime assistant and friend, Felicia Culotta, debating not finishing the shoot, when Applebaum told her, “If you don’t have it in you, I totally understand … but if you want to go out there and finish this last set-up in the rain, you can show him that he just made the biggest f—ing mistake of his life.”

The singer took a moment and then agreed with him, he says, telling him, “You know that? That’s a good idea… I’m going to show him that he blew the best thing he ever had,” before returning to the shoot with even more “conviction,” as if she was “on a mission.”

Cheating on Justin Timberlake with choreographer Wade Robson

After much speculation, Spears has admitted that she did cheat on Justin Timberlake during their three-year relationship with Aussie choreographer Wade Robson.

She admits to the indiscretion in her upcoming memoir, the US Sun reported, writing about the brief fling.

“We were out one night and we went to a Spanish bar. We danced and danced. I made out with him that night,” she shared about Robson.

Though Timberlake found out about the brief affair, Spears reportedly said the couple “agreed to move past” the infidelity, considering the many years she was “loyal to Justin” and “only had eyes for him.”

Robson later became renowned for accusing Michael Jackson of sexual abuse in 2013. Though his case, and the case of another accuser James Safechuck was originally dismissed, it has since been revived by an appeals court two months ago. They also spoke about their experiences in the 2019 HBO documentary Leaving Neverland.

Getting a record deal at 15

In an excerpt shared with People, Spears speaks about auditioning for record labels as a teen with the help of family friend and lawyer Larry Rudolph. It was years after she starred on The Mickey Mouse Club.

“Larry took me around [New York City], and I went into rooms full of executives and sang Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing,” Britney writes in her memoir.

“Gazing out at the rooms full of men in suits looking me up and down in my small dress and high heels, I sang loud.”

Spears went on to release her hit song …Baby One More Time as her debut single back in 1998 under Jive Records. She was just 16 years old.

Why she shaved her head

In 2007, Spears was seen shaving off all her hair with clippers at a hair salon. She says that moment was a way of “pushing back” against the comments surrounding her appearance.

“I’d been eyeballed so much growing up. I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body, since I was a teenager,” she explained.

According to Spears, she had to grow her hair back after she officially was put under a court-ordered conservatorship a year later.

Britney ‘drank alcohol with her mum in high school’

In an exclusive excerpt from her memoir obtained by People, Spears alleges she used to drink alcohol with her mother Lynne Spears when she was a teenager.

According the excerpt, the pair would drink daiquiris, that they called “toddies” for “fun”.

“I loved that I was able to drink with my mum every now and then,” she writes. “We became happier, more alive and adventurous.”

The superstar and her mother have appeared to have a rocky relationship throughout the years.

In November 2021, Spears accused her mother Lynne of being the one to push the conservatorship.

In a since deleted Instagram post, the superstar claimed that her mum gave her father Jamie “the idea” to place her under a court-ordered conservatorship.

She was allegedly told she was fat by her dad

The superstar alleges she was subjected to hurtful comments from her dad, Jamie Spears.

”If I thought getting criticised about my body in the press was bad, it hurt even more from my own father,” Spears wrote in her memoir obtained by People.

“He repeatedly told me I looked fat and that I was going to have to do something about it,” she claims in the memoir.

“Under the conservatorship… I had to grow my hair out and get back into shape. I had to go to bed early and take whatever medication they told me to take.”

Britney’s father Jamie was placed by a judge as his daughter’s conservator in 2008 alongside a lawyer.

Under the conservatorship, he was put in charge of managing the singer’s finances.

However, in September 2021, Jamie Spears was immediately suspended as Britney’s conservator, later issuing a statement via his attorney, Vivan Thoreen, assuring he “loves his daughter Britney unconditionally”.

“For thirteen years, he has tried to do what is in her best interests, whether as a conservator or her father,” the statement continued.

“All I knew was to look down, because I felt if I looked up and caught its eye, it would kill me,” Spears wrote.

She was scared the MTV snake ‘would kill’ her

Who can forget Britney’s iconic performance of her hit track I’m a Slave 4 U, at the 2001 MTV VMAs with a live python resting on her shoulders?

In an excerpt from her memoir, the star has revealed that while she looked calm and collected on stage, the performance was “terrifying” in reality.

“All I knew was to look down, because I felt if I looked up and caught its eye, it would kill me,” Spears wrote.

The singer revealed an alarming moment during the performance when the python “started hissing” in her face.

“I was thinking, Are you f—ing serious right now? The f—ing goddamn snake’s tongue is flicking out at me,” she wrote.

Spears has opened up on her experience filming the 2002 movie Crossroads, sharing that it “wasn’t easy” for her.

“My problem wasn’t with anyone involved in the production but with what acting did to my mind,” she said.

Crossroads was the first screen role Spears landed. In her memoir, the singer revealed that she believes she descended into “method acting” and struggled with “separation” between herself and her character.

” I really became this other person,” she wrote, explaining that she had even begun to change the way she walked and talked, struggling to decipher what was “real”.

The experience on the 2002 film led the singer to ultimately not pursue an acting career, writing that she was “relieved” for it to be over.

Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears’ parents have not yet commented on the claims made in the memoir.
