Foreigners can apply for a new Indonesian “second home country visa” if they have at least $128,400 in a the account.
The tourist island of Bali can become the “second home” of any traveler with enough money. Indonesia’s new visa policy will allow them to stay on the island for up to 10 years, according to CNA. Under the new “second home” visa program, foreigners can stay for 5 or 10 years and carry out various activities as long as they meet the requirements of the regulatory agency.
Accordingly, those interested must have at least 2 billion rupiah (equivalent to 128,400 USD) in a bank account and passport with at least 36 months validity to be considered for a new visa. “The purpose of this new visa is to attract foreign tourists to Bali and other destinations,” said Widodo Ekatjahjana, Acting Director General for Immigration Indonesia.
The decision comes just weeks before Indonesia hosts the Group of 20 (G20) Leaders Summit in mid-November, which will host thousands of delegates to Bali from many parts of the world. This regulation will officially take effect on December 25, this year.
Mr. Ekatjahjana added: “This immigration policy is one of the non-financial incentives, which can be a driving force to stimulate some foreigners to stay and make a positive contribution to the Indonesian economy in the context of Indonesia’s economy. increasingly dynamic global economic landscape”.
Bali – which is heavily dependent on tourists – is the province hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The value of Bali’s economy will decrease by 9.31% in 2020 and 2.47% in 2021. With the reopening of Bali at the end of last year and this year’s G20 summit, the Central Bank of Indonesia is hopeful. The economy will grow between 3.8% and 4.6% in 2022.
Putu Winastra, head of the Bali region for the Indonesian Tourism and Travel Agency, expressed uncertainty about how the new policy will help boost tourism on the island.
“The second home country visa will be issued to those who stay in Bali for a long time. Such tourists won’t need us (people in the travel and tourism industry), because they won’t stay in the hotel,” Winastra told CNA.
