U.S. Urges China to Fulfill Trade Agreement Commitments
Washington – The Trump administration issued a strong reminder to a senior Chinese official on Friday, emphasizing the necessity for Beijing to adhere to its obligations under a nearly year-old trade agreement. Key focal points include the timely delivery of rare earth elements, other essential minerals, and agricultural purchases, according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer communicated these expectations during a phone call with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. This dialogue highlighted the urgency of executing the terms of the trade pact that was originally established in Busan, South Korea, in October 2025.
In a statement following the call, USTR emphasized, “Ambassador Greer reinforced the critical need for China to take decisive actions to ensure complete adherence to its previous commitments, specifically regarding agricultural purchases, rare earths, and other vital minerals.”
